More About Gallons to Ounces
Gallons To Ounces is a trio from Montgomery County, Maryland, with their fan base in the Washington, D.C. area. The band consists of Matt Cummings, Andrew Griffin, and Zach Miller. The members of Gallons To Ounces met while still in high school when they participated in the Montgomery County Battle of the Bands, in 2004. Andrew and Zach played in the band, Dill Phunk, while Matt was a member of Saucy Bills. Dill Phunk took second place while Saucy Bills won. After the event Matt and Zach exchanged contact information and that was the beginning of a musical friendship.
Andrew and Zach graduated from high school and went on to attend Berklee College of Music. Andrew and Zach roomed together while at college but never played in band together while living in Boston. Matt graduated from high school a year later and went on to attend the Berklee College of Music as well, but left after one semester, moving back to Maryland where he would continue to play with Saucy Bills. Outside of school Andrew played in two bands in the Boston area, that did very well, while Zach was approaching more of the business/production side of music.
Zach and Andrew both graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2008. Zach graduated with a Music Business Degree while Andrew got his degree in Professional Music. Zach moved back to Maryland where he could save money while pursuing a job in the Music Industry, while playing with local musicians in the area. Saucy Bills was looking for a drummer, so he contacted Matt. Andrew was currently playing in a band in the Boston area when it suddenly ended when he graduated. He eventually moved back to Maryland in the fall of 2008. Before Andrew moved home, Saucy Bills bassist had moved further away and became a problem for practicing. Andrew was approached by Zach with an opportunity for him to play bass for Saucy Bills. He agreed.
Total reconstruction of the band began to take place. A lot of down time, jamming, finding places to practice, being yelled at by neighbors for being to loud, not being able to practice, drinking beers, and having good laughs. They decided to take the next approach. Matt's lease was up. The band came up with the idea to all live together in a house in Rockville, MD that would become the official practice spot.
Since then the band has exploded and has been playing all around the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia Area) including: Baltimore, Washington DC, Gaithersburg, Fairfax, Eastern Shore, Frederick, Upper Marlboro, Annapolis, Rockville, etc.
In August, 2009, they recorded a demo with Alan Evans (of SOULIVE) in his Massachusetts studio where they finished the rest of the album in March of 2010. The band is currently working on their second album.
