Artist Summary
Artist Bio
Danni has just finished recording a new 4 track EP produced by Iain Archer (Snow Patrol, Reindeer Section, Tired Pony) due for realease spring 2012. She'll also be working with producer/bassist/composer Chris Donohue (Emmylou Harris, Gillian Welch, Robert Plant) in Nashville for an album due to be released early 2013.....this is going to be the busiest year yet!
Danni has been writing and performing original songs since she inherited her uncle Heathcliff's 1964 Burns London Shortscale Jazz guitar (rumoured to have belonged to Billy Fury!) aged 16. Shortly after, she learnt her first chord (G!) and was writing her own material.
For the past 5 years Danni Nicholls has been gigging and touring the UK with her trusty parlour guitar wooing audiences with her unique voice and acoustic/americana/folk songs.
Pulling on musical references from Johnny, Elvis & Dolly to Gillian Welch; Carole King to Bonnie Raitt, Danni has been invited to support acts as diverse as Todd Snider, Angus & Julia Stone, Jim Lauderdale, Bobby Bare Jr, Mark Olson, Kate Walsh, Otis Gibbs, Nell Bryden and Diana Jones.
Danni’s performances are guaranteed to melt both your heart and the soles of your cowboy boots. Her passionate delivery and charmingly engaging between-song banter compels you to fall under her spell.
Song topics range from unfulfilled dreams (Travelling Man) to longing to escape the tedium of the daily 9-5 (Rapunzel); and be prepared for the rocking foot-stompers that double-dare you to stay in your seat.
More About Danni Nicholls
"First up was local singer-songwriter Danni Nicholls with excellent support during her short set by multi-instumentalist Nick Funke, variously on slap bass and mandolin. Danni also accompanied her own beautiful vocals with acoustic guitar, casting her spell over most of the hushed crowd with her exceptional self-penned songs, all sung with heartfelt emotion and in a style not dissimilar to a young Rosanne Cash. Not a comparison made lightly as I’m a huge fan of Rosanne, but I think Danni really can be that good and would be surprised if some of her songs were not taken up by some of the Nashville ‘stars.’ Of highlights, there were plenty but her own Rapunzle, Heavy Shoes and Empty Houses were exceptional as was her reading of Carole King’s Way Over Yonder and Gillian Welch's Wayside/Back in Time. Space dictates the lack of analysis of these mainly self-penned songs but suffice to say they cover many of life’s emotions and with a voice that never seems strained—remember her "
