STRUCTURE

Listening Room International Songwriters Retreat participants meet each morning and evening in the Listening Circle -  with the agreement that all attending are in full support of each other's creative growth and expression.

At 10:00am each morning, various aspects of the creative process are discussed, before a songwriting assignment and new co-writing partner is given each day.  The discussions and assignments are designed to stimulate inspiration and develop new approaches to the songwriting process.

And at 8:00pm each evening, we gather again to hear the results of the days work - with constructive feedback provided.

Throughout the week, we talk a good deal about 'process' with the term ' tools versus rules' a common refrain, as we effort to help shape rough ideas into completed works - using everything that comes up along the way.

At the end of our week together, the magic is in the songs which have appeared.

LEGACY

Past participants have gone on to record and tour extensively outside their home countries as a direct result of the contacts and friendships established at these events, and many of the co-written songs have already made their way onto several artist's albums.

Of equal importance is the enthusiasm and sense of renewed spirit regularly shared with me by participants at the end of our week together.

Ability is relative. Talent can be developed through nurturing, or diminish through neglect. Music is an expression of self and spirit available to all who wish to follow its' path, and everyone has an audience for their works. LEADERSHIP

Retreats founder and leader Brett Perkins is a frequent guest speaker and consultant throughout Europe on songwriting and artist development, having been involved in the early careers of hundreds of songwriters around the globe. 

Brett's also the founder of the Copenhagen Songwriters Festival and Listening Room Concert Series, with past affiliations including C.E.O./National Academy of Songwriters, Publisher/SongTalk Magazine, founding partner/Unisong International Songwriters Competition, and A&R screener at TAXI.

An active songwriter, performer and recording artist, Brett's songs have been placed in film, television, radio, albums by numerous artists and been awarded first place positions in both national and international songwriting competitions since the early 80's.
