Current news for Laganza:
After an amazing East Coast tour, Laganza is now back in the studio recording a brand new record! Original bassist Benji Jordan has rejoined the group and the band is fired up and ready to unleash the new songs during live performances!
Emerging onto the Ontario music scene with a sound as original as the band members themselves, Laganza's blend of rock, reggae & blues blasts through the Canadian Shield with a syncopated style of musicianship while maintaining an accessible sound that appeals to any listener.
Rooted in the vast landscape of Muskoka, founding band members guitarist/vocalist Tobin Spring and drummer Derek Cochrane started jamming in high school, embarking on a friendship based on music as well as their shared passion for snowboarding, fishing, summertime dock parties and the laid-back Muskoka lifestyle.
Early on, they spent many late nights jamming in Spring's cabin with a tape recorder, writing unique jam songs that featured a heavy dose of reggae. Inspired by the sounds of Bob Marley, Sublime, Led Zeppelin and The Allman Brothers, the band's music and versatility evolved into their distinct Laganza style.
To complete Laganza's sound, the duo added guitarist Brian Hawley and bassist Jamie Bestwick, both talented & experienced musicians. With a set of solid material, Laganza became further motivated to take their craft to the next level. They began building a loyal fan base throughout Ontario while performing at local bars, small music venues and festivals across the province. As they started playing in neighbouring Toronto, the band found it necessary to charter party buses so their fans could make the 140-mile trek to their shows.
After gaining the attention of sought-after producers & engineers Mike Langford (Tupelo Honey) and Andre Wahl (Hawksley Workman), the band worked diligently to polish their material and further develop their style. After the success of 2008's album, "It's Only Life" they followed up with the highly anticipated full-length album, "Both Sides" (released independently in 2010). It features nine tracks that showcase the band's matured songwriting and intricate grooves.
Recently, the band's music has been attracting attention across Canada. Four of their songs (Higher Height, It's Only Life, September & Both Sides of the Coin) have been featured on Ontario Moose FM radio stations. They've opened up for groups such as Blue Rodeo, Big Sugar, Bedouin Soundclash, Kim Mitchell, April Wine,
Their song, "Be Here" was featured as the official theme song of the 2010 Ontario Winter Games.
Laganza is pumped to be hitting the road & playing to a new fan base while spreading the message of their music.
Laganza vocalist Tobin Spring sums up their fun, yet introspective style, "We want to be positive and entertain our audiences while creating music that is unique and relevant".
“A band all the way from Huntsville called Laganza had caught my eye as I was making out my CMF schedule, and a couple of tweets later I was chatting with a few of its members before they blew me away with their unique blues-reggae fusion. Yeah, you read that right, and it is as cool as it sounds. By the time they got on the crowd at Mitzi’s Sister had thinned out a little, but those who were there danced nonstop for an hour, myself included. I couldn’t stop raving to my wife about their incredible extended jam cover of The Allman Brothers Band’s ‘Whipping Post!’”

“We went to the new CD release concert for Laganza at the Algonquin and they blew us away. They were nothing short of amazing and they are a hometown band.”
David Harris - Huntsville Online
“After an intense year of writing and recording, Huntsville’s four-piece band Laganza is priming up for the May release of their third album "Both Sides", which features some of the band’s most impressive work to date.
The soon-to-be released CD will feature nine original song with more reggae-infused tunes, compared to the band’s 2008 rock album, "It’s Only Life".
Laganza's CD Release Concert is scheduled for Friday, May 21st 2010 8pm at the Algonquin Theatre.”
