Biography:

Song-writing, folk-noise, experimenting and keeping music alive. When I play live I play songs differently each time and work with improvisation.

Press:

“It takes courage to go into a studio and play it like you do live and that’s what Listen Lisse has demonstrated with her album “Sunset Over Cairo”. Over the course of these ten songs, she flies the flag of an honest performer and that alone distinguishes her from the dedicated followers of autotuning.”
Blues Bunny

“Listen Lisse's cup positively overflows with self assured attitude. Here is an artist that sounds comfortable in her skin and is more than happy to infuse her music with that attitude. "Sunset Over Cairo" shares it's heritage as much with the hey days of punk as it does with folk drawing out the best of each genre to deliver a well thought out album that lashes out when it want's/needs to.”
Neil King - Fatea Magazine

“the experience of Sunset Over Cairo. Rhythmic and lulling....Organic folk mingles with edgy punk as Lisse sets insights to music..... “Outlaw of Her Love” sends out alluring and ghostly vocals while telling how “she moves her body like a snake, the dancing never seems to end.”... Deep and reflective, “Rumour” feels like snow trickling into a widening stream at the dawn of spring. Lisse’s voice is lovely when calling, “You are the eternal hunger.” .”
Resonance, Indie Music Vibes

"amazing vocal work on these songs..really love the warm, deep vibrato you got sparking off in the tunes, and the rockin, driving dirge you create for "lucky you" is just mesmeric! Heavy and dark and very fuckin cool. Love your style!!" -
Mike White Presents, Reverb Nation

"Darkly Crooning multi-instrumentalist Listen Lisse brings pared-back, rough-around-the-edges, disaffected-to-the-point-of-dangerous, indie chick chic and techy time signatures to album number two Pow Bang"
Rock n Reel Magazine

“Crafty, melodic, layered, painful, haunting and inspired with Lisa's voice racked with emotion constantly on the verge of breaking down this is an album that you need to hear.”
The Devil Has The Best Tuna

“Lisse brings her captivating, bittersweet punk songcraft to town”
TimeOut

"Pow Bang" is the album of an artist totally at one with her writing. It's an album that asserts it's self.
Fatea Magazine

“comes across as deeper than your average singer songwriter”
Blues Bunny

“a fantastic artist who's recently released album 'Pow Bang' album is a wicked release”
Street Voice interview

“Listen Lisse has got to be up there amongst the gems that are worth seeking out”
Street Voice

“Lisse's songs feel they've been lived in like a favourite jumper.”
Fatea Records

“The self-described minimalist/drone approach is prevalent throughout the album, the overall product a fully cohesive performance channelling a late ’80s New York indie rock vibe. Sonic Youth meets Hole is the running theme and McKendrik’s obvious love of folk is the influence that gives her songs a voice of their own.”
NZ Musician

"Your music inspires me in the same way as Mazzy Star and Nico and I think you are up there with them/You have the same quality in yr music that comes from a deep understanding of the self and of the possibilities of yr instruments which you use with great skill"
