Hometown: Seattle, WA
Maria is a classically trained alternative cellist who calls Seattle home. While living in Hollywood Maria performed with Cat Power, Jody Watley and Seth MacFarlane, toured internationally with String Theory and nationally with Florence Henderson's show "All the Lives of Me." She leads a very active performing and recording career and is a teacher of private and group string lessons.
Maria branched out to playing rock and experimental music on the cello in Austin with her brother Chris and composer Graham Reynolds (Golden Arm Trio), all the while studying at the University of Texas where she earned her M.M. in Cello Performance (2003) under the tutelage of Professor Phyllis Young.
Maria now teaches with SYSO (Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra) in the schools program, performs with traveling artists (Jazz Alley-Chris Standring and Triple Door-Hauschka), donates her skills (Angel Band, PAWS, Seattle Modern Orchestra), has joined several Seattle orchestras and chamber groups (BPO,NWSO,Quartet Evolution), records at local studios (Glenn Sound, Fastback, London Bridge) and contracts for various projects.
“Besides being a hugely talented player with a beautiful tone, she has all the required skills to jump into a recording session without so much
as a passing glance at the music.”
