“THE COLUMBUS MARATHON
Record 15,000 marathon participants pound streets to beat of music
From rock and country to even a bagpipe, runners serenaded all along the 26.2-mile route
Agent 99, named after a main character in the 1960s sitcom Get Smart, was one of more than 80 musical acts lining the course to entertain marathon participants.
"I've run 160 marathons across the country, including some of the ones that promote themselves for the music they offer, but I've never heard of a place that's having 80 musicians on the course," said Darris Blackford, the marathon's director.
Providing a variety of live music is one way race planners try to set the Columbus event, officially known as the Nationwide Better Health Columbus Marathon, apart from others across the country, he said.
