Mama’s Black Sheep is the soulful collaboration of singer-songwriters Ashland Miller (guitar/vocals) and Laura Cerulli (drums/vocals). For over 15 years, this dynamic duo has been blending genres and crafting unforgettable songs, creating a blend of hit-worthy originals and covers with a unique spin. Their music takes listeners on a journey that swings from Country to Rock, grooves through Soul, and sways to the Blues. Whether you're dancing or reflecting, there's always something to stir both body and soul.
With Ashland’s versatile guitar grooves and Laura’s innovative percussion, Mama’s Black Sheep creates a signature sound that’s as much about the music as it is about the message. Their two voices, harmonizing like honey and whiskey, share stories of life, love, and empowerment, encouraging listeners to live boldly beyond boundaries.
The band has released five well-received albums: Unmarked Highway (2010), Drivin’ On (2011), Live @ The Bevy (2016), The Sheep Save Christmas (2018), and their latest, Fight Back With Love (Fall 2024). They’ve also published a fully illustrated children’s book based on their holiday track, “The Sheep Save Christmas.” In addition, Mama’s Black Sheep was part of a compilation holiday album, A Not-So-Silent Night (Winter 2024), alongside Christine Havrilla and Colleen Clark, to support their tour of the same name.
Touring relentlessly across the U.S. and the Caribbean, Mama’s Black Sheep plays 150+ shows a year. While they most often hit the road as a duo, they occasionally expand into a trio or full band for select performances, offering an even more dynamic live experience.
Ashland and Laura weave vibrant tapestries of sound, infusing each song with energetic color and rich texture. Their music is a conversation between guitar and percussion—soulful, poetic storytelling with an
irresistible groove. Whether it’s blues, pop, soul, country, or rock, their genre-blending style guarantees something for every listener.

“Mama's Black Sheep/Live @ The Bevy: Here's a cd-dvd combo pack that documents the work of this hard working folkie based singer/songwriter duo that's flying high in the underground. With more shows under their belts than you can imagine from an act you probably haven't heard of, they used Indiegogo to finance an extravaganza of a package to reward their faithful and further spread the word. Organic, heartfelt stuff that anyone can relate to, this is further proof the underground of outliers is alive an well. Well done.”

“Mama’s Black Sheep - Live @The Bevy (Self-produced): Mama’s Black Sheep officially formed as a duo composed of Ashland Miller (guitar, vocals) and Laura Cerulli (drums, piano, vocals) in 2008. This disc, their third, is a live performance of eight originals and five covers ranging from Dave Barnes and Stevie Nicks to Otis Redding. The sound is folksy or Americana and includes backup by Robin Elder (bass) and Helen Hausmann (violin) with a guest appearance by Christine Havrilla (guitar, vocal) on one track. Not much that is deeply bluesy, but good material and very nice and tight performances. Their vocals blend really well.”
