Biography:

Dark Water Rising (Rocky Soul)

Chapel Hill, NC :
The band attributes their style of playing and singing to a combination of influences, which range from attending Sunday morning worship services to absorbing the diverse styles and tones of artists like Aretha Franklin, Michael Jackson, the BeeGees, and Lynrd Skynard.
DWR explores various themes of life — love, heartbreak, sacrifice, celebration, despair, pain — all while expressing and evoking sincere emotion on issues affecting their communities.
Dark Water Rising has two albums under their belt to date: self-titled release “Dark Water Rising” (2010) and “Grace & Grit: Chapter 1” (2012). The band has performed throughout the East Coast, has garnered considerable radio airplay, appeared on NPR's "The Story with Dick Gordon" and "The State of Things", and has earned a Native American Music Award for "Debut Duo or Group of the Year" (2010). With their third release on the way Chapter 2: Walnut Branch, DWR has some big plans in the making!

Dark Water Rising — comprised of powerhouse artists Charly Lowry (vocals/rhythm guitar/percussion), Aaron Locklear (keys/guitar/drums), Corey Locklear (lead guitar), and Zack Hargett (bass) — continues to grow and amaze each time they perform.

Press:

"With its accessible distillations of neo-soul and rustic folk, Dark Water Rising is the most likely local band to mimic Delta Rae's recent ascent."
Jordan Lawerence - Indy Weekly

"Spiritually rich and soulful, DWR rocked the place with their Native American gospel-tinged harmonies and southern rock format."
Sheryl Bryant - Raleigh Music Industry Association

"A solid sophomore release that presents a style reminiscent to many classic rock standards and hooks that will have you humming along to them long after the album stops playing."
Simon Eddie - HomeGrown Music Network

"Great chemistry mixed with a nostalgic sound prove that DWR's line up change has in no way slowed their growth."
Laney Branch - NC Arts Review
