Biography:

Young and focused, Bobby “Tre9” Herring started Much Luvv Records, a Christian record label, in 1998. Since its inception, Much Luvv Records has released over 17 albums and touched the lives of thousands. In 2010, he married his wife Amanda and became the step dad Teonna Daniels. Immediately after marrying, Amanda and Tre began serving the homeless every night in Houston through their Feed A Friend ministry. Houston’s mayor Anise Parker shut it down abruptly after nearly two years of serving the poor daily. City ordinances prohibit anyone from feeding home cooked meals to the more than 5 people in need on any given day. Nevertheless, it was through this ministry that Tre and Amanda begin fostering two 4 and 6 year old homeless boys, Nicholas and Triston, which are now their adopted sons. In 2012, he had a baby boy named Tyce Reed Herring, making him a father of four.

In October 2008, God called Tre9 out of the business world to full-time missions, which led to the formation of Eyes on Me, Inc., a non-profit organization that reaches under-served youth in Houston. Growing up as an inner city teen, Tre experienced the same pressures as today’s inner city youth and that gave him the desire to give back. His passion and gift to minister to inner city adolescents in a relevant way is consistent with his upbringing in the hip hop culture. Under the guidance of his faith in Christ, he started Hip Hop Hope Missions in three poor neighborhoods, 5th Ward, Brookshire and Spring Branch. Every week, a gathering of teenagers from the hood assembles to hear about God through an interactive experience using live rap performances, a live DJ, games, prizes, engaging questions and more. In 2012, Tre followed the good shepherd to plant out the Box Church, an organic body of Christ gathering that trains disciples to reproduce. In 2017, there are 12 Hip Hop Hope street outreaches and 11 Out Tha Box Churches across the world, including Canada, Jamaica and South Africa.

The impact that Tre9 has had can be felt beyond the confines of Houston, TX. He has travelled abroad on missions to the U.K. Brazil, and Jamaica. He has raised up disciples in multiple cities across the U.S. through training and workshops, sharing what he has learned as a missionary, evangelist, pastor, teacher and pioneer of new ministries in hard to reach places. He was also honored at the 2010 Ensound Music Awards as a trailblazer in Christian hip-hop for co-founding www.DaSouth.com, a leading news source and media site for Christian hip-hop culture. The Kingdom Choice Awards also awarded him in 2013 for his outstanding contributions towards advancing the Christian hip hop movement. In 2015, The City of Houston awarded him his own "Tre9 Day" on July 21st, which is celebrated annually.

In March 2013, Tre9 dropped his forth and final solo album entitled, “Missionary Minded,” with Rapture Recordz, which has redirected many Christians back to the great commission. He retired the mic in 2014 to focus on ministry. Tre9 is set to drop his fifth album, coming out of retirement, in 2017. Although Tre9 has many different endeavors for Christ, he has one single mission—changing people’s lives for eternity.

“Last night, Bun B gathered a few friends for his Religion and Hip Hop Culture Class at Rice University. The panel included Malice of The Clipse, Talib Kweli, Tre9, and Trae The Truth, who in the clip above debate the topic of rappers being role models with a teacher in the audience.”
Mr. North - MissInfo.TV

“Religious content, artistic integrity, creative responsibility, censorship, parental accountability, political issues: these were a few of the topics on Bun B’s agenda during his panel discussion on “The Ethics of Hip-Hop” at Houston’s Venue Nightclub last night (April 12). The co-professor of the “Religion and Hip Hop Culture” class at Rice University moderated the second public session in a continued effort to close the cognitive distance between rap culture and academia. The Professor of Trill—as he’s come to be known on campus—played aggregator of content as fellow MCs Tre9, Trae the Truth, Malice of The Clipse, Talib Kweli and Lupe Fiasco spoke openly for three hours about their collective views on how they approach hip-hop artistically and socially.”
unknown - XXL.com

“The panel was geographically and philosophically diverse: The Clipse's Malice, whose spiritual awakening is well documented in his book Wretched, Pitiful, Poor, Blind, and Naked; Brooklyn's Talib Kweli, a premier lyricist who's devoted most of his life and art to promoting education in the African-American community; and Chicago's Lupe Fiasco, an outspoken MC with a genuine affinity for positivity. Representing Houston were christian rapper Bobby "Tre9" Herring and street poet Trae tha Truth, with Bun as the able moderator.”
Rizoh - Houston Press

“Hailing from Houston, Texas, Tre9 is the epitome of a Southern gentleman: young, ambitious, honest, humble, not to mention the co-founder of one of the largest Christian hip-hop networks across the globe.”
Tina Smithers - Spinner.com

“Bobby Herring is Tre9. For the past 12 years, Tre9 has represented a new side of the Hip-Hop culture; and he is still pressing forward to bigger things.”
Bob Craig - Examiner.com

“Together with some indigenous leadership, Rickie and local artist Tre9 (see Hip-Hop Gospel) are working to plant and develop organic churches in the notorious Fifth Ward in Houston.”
Bob Craig - Examiner.com

“Houston is the birthplace of many major labels and rappers, and has been one of the hottest cities in the rap scene since the 80's. Now, Houstonian Bobby Herring wants to change the stereotype of the rapper. ”
Kent Matthews - Houston Chronicle
