Kelly Carvin is a raw, rebellious and sensual Folk Rock artist and songwriter based out of New Jersey, currently living in Nashville, Tennessee. Kelly discovered music as a young teen when she was expelled from high school and sent to an alternative school that conveniently had a music program. A teacher named Mr. Steele took her under his wing, and pushed Kelly to pick up guitar. “I was quite the rebel, but he saw something in me other then my bad attitude. With the support of him and the staff there, my confidence began to grow. I was treated like a superstar!” Kelly played with and wrote some songs with the band at school. She then left on a cross country road trip with a friend, came home and wrote her first song by herself. After writing, she went to an open mic in Trenton to try the song out at the 449 Room and it was on from there.
“Music with teeth, heart and big brass balls” is what some of her fans have to say. Kelly has quite the distinct tone to her voice that swings from sweet and sensual to smoky sultry at the drop of a note. Her live shows are raw, naturally drawing in listeners to her intimate performance. Her songs range from rebellious and witty, intense and inspiring or simple, silly party numbers. She’s not your typical whoa is me singer/songwriter; Kelly likes to keep it upbeat, relatable and thought provoking.
Kelly has since been writing songs, performing and working hard at her music career. She made first rounds with American Idol and The Voice as well as nominations for the Asbury Park Music Awards. She was a finalist with her band in The Singing Sensation NBC10/6Flags Great adventure contest as well as a finalist in The Break Contest held at The Stone Pony. She’s performed in venues such as The Apollo Theater, Crocodile Rock Cafe, Katmandu and many various clubs in and around the North East and Southern States. In 2010 Kelly landed an endorsement deal with CARVIN guitars and amps. In addition to those accomplishments, she has played alongside national acts Lukas Rossi from Rockstar Supernova, Jersey legend John Eddie, Jeffrey Gaines, Nicole Atkins, and Keller Williams.
Kelly Carvin released her first self titled EP called Kelly Carvin & The Future (named after her band) in July of 2011. The CD was funded by her dedicated fans; raising over $2,000 for recording costs. It is a fun compilation of her fan favorite rock and acoustic songs. John Pfeiffer from the Aquarian says: “Lively and full of traditional class, Kelly steps away from the pack and hits this one out of the proverbial park. Only the musicians match the material that she has picked to wow her fans here.” The record has six studio songs and “Fire” which was recorded live at the NBC 10 studios. The record is available on CD Baby, Itunes and is being played on various independent radio stations across the country.
In November of 2012 Kelly made the move to Nashville, TN to pursue her artist and songwriting career. Here she is performing, networking and co writing with the best in the business. Stay tuned for this Jersey girl’s bright future!
“She’s good. Very good. And not in a “Oh, look, Charlie, she’s from Hamilton, let’s support the nice girl in her little music thing” -- but in a “Charlie! We’ve got ourselves a rock ‘n’ roll superstar right here in Hamilton!””
JOEY KULKIN - Trentonian TV Unplugged: ‘Carvin It Up’
"Kelly takes command of every stage she steps upon with a sly smile; which at times borders on an 'I’ve got you all right where I want you' smirk. The music that she writes is based on her personal experiences, comes from her inner most emotions, and is guaranteed to grab a hold of you, or at least some part of your psyche."
Danny Coleman - ROCK ON! Kelly Carvin rocks out, and this week's music listings
"Carvin's enthusiasm and belief in what she is doing is not only refreshing but infectious.. naturally drawing people to her music and getting them to think about who she is and what she writes about.. she’s got a plan and she intends to follow it all the way to its conclusion...
Echoing the same sentiments used in the early 60's.. Carvin belts this message out with conviction and style.
Her musical approach is simplistic and pristine...creating the focus on her dusky and soulful voice..
Songs like "Keep On", with it's funky Zeppelin feel, rolls on sweetly to "Revolution". a shuffled Sheryl Crow styled tune. The minor keyed lilt of "This Cloud", .. is a beautiful song that showcases her talent for emoting dynamic, rising and falling back softly to the diminished ending... I feel that with the right producer and 10 more songs, she could be unstoppable.."
John Pfeiffer - The Aquarian - Shore World
“Kelly Carvin, 21, of Yardville, won the $250 second prize in the "Freehold Idol" competition. Carvin, a singer/songwriter who plays guitar, performed her original composition "The Fire Song."
