Biography:

Tarrah Reynolds is a name already well-established throughout the musical circles that paint New York City's cultural landscape. Hailing from Milwaukee, she made her mark in the midwest as one of the brightest talents amongst her peers, winning numerous violin auditions and scholarships, and performing her first concerto with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra at the age of 12. But it was the audition that won her a place at the prestigious Juilliard School that finally brought her to New York, where her musical life was to take a new course.

While Juilliard solidified her classical training, Tarrah realized that her passion for music could not be fulfilled sitting in an orchestra. She needed to compose and she needed to be a deeper part of New York's cultural mosaic. So, while quietly honing her new-found songwriting craft, she began to perform with an array of artists, and her violin and background singing talents didn't go unnoticed. Over the years, she's been chosen to perform and/or record with international superstars like Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys, U2, Mos Def, Jay-Z, Marc Anthony, Kanye West, D'Angelo, Maxwell, Ms. Lauryn Hill, The Clark Sisters, Donnie McClurkin, Tramaine Hawkins, The Gorillaz, Il Divo, El Debarge, Mick Jagger and Harry Connick Jr, while staying a vital part of her local community, performing with New York-based artists like Tamar-Kali, Imani Uzuri, Monet, Tortured Soul and Si*Se.

Although Tarrah Reynolds was well-known in the city that never sleeps as a master of the supportive role, her skills as a front-woman remained her own secret. Surrounded by the world's best performers, it took a strong dose of courage for Tarrah to reveal her talents as a singer, songwriter and guitarist, showing up quietly to songwriter nights around New York. Bolstered by the overwhelming response–crowds quickly learned her lyrics and chose their favorite requests–she began opening up to her peers. She has gleaned their respect as well, earning two invitations to sing with Tamar-Kali's Nina Simone tribute band in France, as well as performing with Burnt Sugar Orchestra at The Apollo and performing alongside John Forte at the Highline Ballroom. She continues to build on her devout following with regular performances around New York, both solo and with her band, at venues like The Blue Note, The Living Room and Rockwood Music Hall. With 2011, Tarrah Reynolds takes her sound on the road to Washington DC at Bohemian Caverns and Indulj, to Virginia for the Underground Poetry Awards, and to her hometown of Milwaukee at The Tonic.

Tarrah Reynolds steps into the spotlight with her debut self-titled EP. Drawing on her rich set of influences and musical experiences, the 5-song EP showcases Tarrah Reynolds' many well-crafted musical skills. Her unique songwriting marries the lyricism of Joni Mitchell with the soulful feeling of Bill Withers, while her dexterous guitar style answers the question, "What if the West African finger-picking masters jammed in the jazz clubs of the 50s?" Throughout the EP, Tarrah's violin appears to pay homage to her depth of classical training and studio orchestration experience and her backing band, culled from the best of New York's talent, performs her arrangements with the smoothness of their conductor.

A prelude to her full-length album, the EP highlights Tarrah Reynolds' command of the songwriting process. This isn't just another singer, created in the studio by a creative team. She is her own creative team, writing and orchestrating every aspect of her compositions, while pulling inspiration from the river of culture that is New York's music scene. The sound she has created is her gift back to those that have influenced her, to those that already know her, and to those yet to experience Tarrah Reynolds.

Press:

“Classically-trained violinist, Tarrah Reynolds, has performed with the likes of Jay-Z, Whitney Houston, Maxwell, Alicia Keys, and plenty more, Now she steps into the spotlight with a jazz/folk leaning on her self-titled new independent CD. From the tracks, “Sun Song” and “All Is Mine” (tunes that sound inspired by Minnie Ripperton/Rotary Connection), to the folk flavors, “Where I Want To Go” and “Spell”, and to the blues color of “Burden”, the project is a rich and mellow groove.”
