'MORicana' is the first single taken from Otherside's 2nd studio album: 'Everything Turns To Rust' and features the vocal talents of new singer Deborah Harris.
What's 'MORicana' about? .. that would be telling, but let me add that the song is bristling with guitar-laden Indie energy and if there's any justice in this world .. 'MORicana' should be playing all over college radio!
A sublime alternate acoustic version of 'Black & Blue' is featured on track #2 ( .. the original is featured on the new album). Listen and be spellbound! The only thing that's consistant with this version and the album version are the drums and Debs vocals .. everything else was freshly recorded and mixed down specifically for this release.
As an added bonus, the previously unreleased 'Light Version' of 'MORicana' is featured on track #3. A unique twist/take on the title track, this version will leave you setting the cd player on "repeat" for the duration. This track is a contender for the 'A' side in other territories.
Track #4 is the instrumental tracking to 'A Perfect Crash' and like 'Black & Blue' .. is specific to this release. The full vocal version appears on 'Everything Turns To Rust'. 'A Perfect Crash' is a perfect marriage between Indie and Subverted Dance. It grooves like Gang Of Four on a diet of Chic and the Banshees!
But how did we get from there to here? Well, Otherside were formed in June 2005 by Ken Worthing who was (and still is) the bands' main songwriter, instrumentalist and studio engineer and Trevor Eynon who wrote the lyrics and sang the main vocal lines. In October 2006, Otherside's debut album: 'Looking For The Fine Line' was released on local Indie label: Kebabylon Productions. To cut a long story short, Ken and Trev parted company in May 2007.
Usually, when a band loses it's lead singer; it spells the end for the group. Unusually, when Ken split with Trev, it became a very Positive raison d'etre for him to take Otherside to new heights.
To cap things on phase #1 of Otherside, Kebabylon released a 23 track singles and rare tracks compilation album in June 2007, 'Audible Traces Vol.1' that neatly rounded up the 7 songs that made up Otherside's first 2 E.P. releases plus another 16 tracks or alternate mixes, unreleased outtakes and general hard-to-find stuff.
Cut to June 2007, enter Deborah Harris! Stunning vocalist extraordinaire!! Deborah proved to be just the catalyst that Ken needed to make the new songs even MORE special. Within 4 months, they'd completed the master mixes on all 12 tracks for the next album: 'Everything Turns To Rust'.
Knowing that they had an album that was a huge stylistic leap (in every way imaginable) from Otherside's debut album, they sought the help of industry legend: Jon Astley, to master the album. Btw, if the name rings any bells, it's because Jon has previously mastered artists such as Tori Amos, The Who, The Rolling Stones, The Small Faces and KT Tunstall to name but a few.
The album was released by Kebabylon Productions on the 31st October 2007 and contains 12 tracks, including the lead track from the 'MORicana' CD single.
The songs on 'Everything Turns To Rust' deal with many themes: Love, Pain, Hate, Sprituality, Sex, Emptiness, Despair, all come to mind. .. but all the themes are wrapped up in music to utterly seduce you.
Freshly rejuvenated by the radio airplay that 'MORicana's received, Otherside are touring the U.K. with Deborah Harris singing and Ken Worthing on guitar and keyboard duties. The touring band are augmented by Al Roberts on bass and Stuart Carroll on drums.
You'll love this album .. trust me.
