Combining the rugged earthiness and worldly vibe of their native New England, Oscar Begat has found a musical home in the Chapel Hill-Durham indie-rock scene. Songwriters Marco and Jesse DeConto draw much of their influence from across the pond -- The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, U2, Fleetwood Mac, Radiohead, Coldplay. But the acoustic rhythms and playful vocals of American artists like Dave Matthews, Jack Johnson and Dispatch have also made their mark on this pair of brothers and their supporting players. Across the decades, from Simon & Garfunkel, to Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, to REM, Indigo Girls, Counting Crows, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Jars of Clay, Over the Rhine and Midlake, folk-inspired rockers have molded Oscar Begat's sound.
