They're tearing up Springfield Avenue
It's backed up for miles down to route 42
Neighbors and strangers trying to find their way home

The Mayor sees, the Mayor knows,
The Mayor says, "that's just the way that it goes"
for all these poor strangers trying to find their way home

On the corner he watches the world passing by
You can tell by his words and the look in his eyes
From the corner, he can't tell the truth from a lie anymore

"Crazy fool" some people say
To hang on that street corner day after day
Smiling at strangers trying to find their way home

All is one on Springfield Avenue
From the corner of Hope down to route 42
Neighbors and strangers trying to find their way home

Bankers and laborers,
Counselors and caterers,
Misfits, misanthrope, shaman and shavers
Pilgrims and pagans trying to find their way home
