Bio
"...Their brand of rock combines elements of progressive rock with straight jazz. You can hear the influence of the cool jazz of the '50s west coast players in their music, as well as the complexity of bands such as Gentle Giant and Emerson, Lake & Palmer, influences the band readily admit to. Von Babasin (bass, vocals, keyboards; son of the '40s and '50s jazz bassist/cellist Harry Babasin, whose Nocturne Records contributed significantly to west coast jazz) and Dave Goode (drums, percussion) had played together for over a decade before meeting Don Lake (guitars, vocals, harmonica) and forming ONOFFON around 1996..." - The All Music Guide by Stanton Swihart
About
International Online Music Awards 2005 "Artist of the Year" winner, ONOFFON, has been in existence for more than 12 years now, having launched their website at www.onoffon.com back on March 11, 1997. Their music, along with featured stories, interviews, and reviews, has appeared on more than 10,000 websites around the world. All of the music on their three albums is available for download at all the major digital distribution sites such as iTunes, Emusic, Rhapsody, and many others. They have garnered critical acclaim from every corner of the globe for their songwriting, musicianship, and production quality. Completely self produced and original, they continue to create music that is innovative and unique, carving their own niche in contemporary music. Sadly though, the music industry, with their emphasis on age and image, ignores groups like ONOFFON. Thank God for the internet, that allows truly original groups to market their music on a professional level and reach fans who are willing to open their minds and hearts to music that appeals to crossover demographics. ONOFFON's music appeals to young and old alike and their music has been front page featured on thousands of websites, including Mp3.com when it was owned by Universal-Vivendi. Before the dissolution of Mp3.com, they amassed more than 157,000 downloads of their songs, charting their song, Mardi Gras, at #15 on their overall charts, next to artists like Madonna, Faith Hill, Linkin Park, and Queens of the Stone Age, and as the #1 Jazz song on their site, above people like Al Dimeola and Nora Jones just before she won five Grammys. ONOFFON was one of the first 100 members of CD Baby when it first launched and their song, Weekend in Montreal, was included in the first "Best of CD Baby" Compilation CD. Their music has appeared in a dozen film and television productions, including shows by FOX Sports, The Discovery Channel, The Food Network, and The Travel Channel. Along with producing award winning music, their bassist, Von Babasin, is fiscally sponsored by the New York Foundation for the Arts to produce a documentary film about the life and career of his father, bassist Harry Babasin, and west coast jazz as an artform. The Babasin family has been defining music on the west coast for more than seven decades now and there seems to be no end in sight.
