Poet Joyce MCLaren to present Palm Coast Poet To Join Gaddis & McMillan FLAGLER BEACH, FL – The upcoming poetry, art and music event “My Heart’s An Open Book” has added veteran poet Joyce McLaren to the list of talent performing Friday, May 31st, 6:00 – 9:00 pm at Ocean Books & Art. McLaren, known for her powerful and insightful poems, will share the microphone with artist Onicas Gaddis, newspaperman Brian McMillan, and song stylist Stan Alston. McLaren’s writing about youth, aging, courage, modern culture, and being an American, has reached the hearts of diverse audiences. Her poem “Forward” received a standing ovation from the congregation when read at Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Palm Coast (FL) during this year’s Martin Luther King Day celebration. “Since Becoming a City,” McLaren’s poem about Palm Coast, was provided to the city in August 2005 to celebrate its first five years of existence. “My Heart’s An Open Book” is a unique way for Ocean Books & Art to hold an art closing party for Onicas Gaddis, the gallery’s featured artist in April and May. Gallery owner Frank Gromling wanted to celebrate the successful two-month run of Gaddis’ “In Search of Identity” collection of acrylic, oil and mixed media paintings. He thought a night of poetry, spoken word, and the stylistic songs of Stan Alston would be the perfect way to end the show. Because Gaddis has been a supporter of The Children’s Advocacy Center of Volusia & Flagler Counties, Inc., he donated an original painting (“The Unspoken Secret”) to be awarded the winner of a raffle to be drawn at the event. The painting is valued at $650 and $10 tickets are available in advance or at the door. Over 90% of the ticket proceeds will go to The Children’s Advocacy Center. As this is the last night of the art show, all of Gaddis’ art will have special pricing. Refreshments will be served. ##### For further information: Sandi Sites/Carole Ogg firstname.lastname@example.org email@example.com www.oceanbooksandart.com
