“They dress really nice for starters, definitely trying to tap into a different vibe than a lot of the younger bluegrass kids who try to dress all Millennial while sounding Appalachian. Puente’s songbook consists of mostly of songs from the O Brother, Where Art Thou soundtrack and other accepted Dust Bowl era songs. Surprisingly, they also throw in Johnny Cash and Gillian Welch covers too for a slightly more modern sound. The folks at the show last night were there for Amy Goodman but adding Puente to the bill definitely helped to establish an artistic connection to the New Deal era that Goodman spoke so eloquently about during her lecture.”
