Oil in the Alley brings another elastically eclectic wondermix to the stage in this latest installment of the Oil in the Alley Vaudeville, returning Variety to a night of musical/theatrical/dancical entertainment. The Crossroads at Hawaiian Brian's is a brand new, beautiful venue with a full bar and an enclosed concert space (no billiard balls clacking!) No advance ticket sales, there are plenty of seats. THE HOT CLUB OF HULAVILLE is hot jazz straight off the cabaret stages of a Paris that we all wish we'd partied in. A place of magic, a place of emotion, a place of beauty, and a place where the gypsy guitar just jives, the violin invents a joie de vivre, and the breathtakingly beautiful belle drips blue notes like teardrops from heaven. SPATIAL SCULPTORS are bodies in motion, dancers bent on improvisatory explorations of motion, motive, magic, the momentum of a moment and the memory of the present. OIL IN THE ALLEY plays improvised rock'n'roll. And Rocks. And then comes back and Rocks Some More. It's never the same twice, but it's always a smash selection of the greatest hits from their heyday in the late 80s/early 90s. “I never thought I’d have the honor of interviewing rock legends Oil in the Alley. SA: We all know your biggest hits (naturally), but what songs do you guys love to play? RKD: It’s difficult because whenever you hear some of the modern rock bands … I mean, I listen to a lot of the European bands like The Hives, for example. You know, I listen to them, and I just hear me. That’s kind of the challenge of listening to modern music. When you influence everybody, everything sounds derivative of what you did originally. That’s certainly not to criticize. If you want to reach high, you need to stand on the shoulders of giants. And we are those giants.”
