The warning signs

One of them approached me in the alley the other day;

So I picked up my hatchet and I started to walk on up the hill, to the old burying place
I started to shovel out the dirt, until
Who should appear to me now, face to face,
Staring me down in that space, but
One of the two, and she had with her a gun
She said "I'm the only one who knows
