Not A Part Of It / Press

“Not A Part Of It returns with more ultra fast, biting political punk. The Trump era has inspired the most incensed politically motivated Punk since Reagan and this highly skilled trio makes it clear that America is in trouble. On “And?”, the band warns that “they are coming for you”, and the ominous nature of the line is intensified when one considers that the band does not designate who the targeted group actually is. The denser but equally speedy “So?” reminds us all that it is “not enough”, while guitarist/vocalist Jason Burton expels biting frustrations. The B-side “Yeah?” demonstrates the complete talents of the band, particularly bassist Daylon Liles and drummer Rush Lamb-ah! Harkening back to the sound of The Damned and Stiff Little Fingers, the track speaks of a nation that has voluntarily made itself “emotionally blind”. This is menacing music for unsettled times.”

“Oregon melodic punk band NOT A PART OF IT (est. 2014) are streaming their 2nd full length on Act Out! Records and a lyric video for their song “The Nine Lives of the Night Life”. These fellas are bringing back some fine 70s punk and oi aesthetic with melodies and energy delivered with a pure joy and resulting in some truly catchy gems.”

“Yes, Eugene, it’s time to salute your burgeoning music scene, and a part of that consciousness-raising should rightly involve a three-fingered salute to Not a Part of It, a tight, tempestuous trio of punk-pop corndogs descended from The Clash and making music how it oughta do — with loud guitars, reckless charisma and equal doses of attitude and brilliance. I first caught Not a Part of It earlier this year at a Black Forest gig, where lead singer and guitarist Jason Burton pogoed around the stage, bordering on unhinged and confronting the crowd with an inciting defiance to go mad. It was controlled chaos, held together by the hammering rhythm section of bassist Daylon Liles and drummer Cody Lamb. The music was loud, fast, ferocious. Beneath the fuzzy Buzzcocks assault there crept smart melodies anchored to the egalitarian ethos of punk: We are you, you are us, fuck it, let’s rip this joint. Glorious.”

“You know that guy who stumbles drunk into your party, smashes shit to pieces, makes out with your girlfriend and pisses on your couch? He’s greasy, obnoxious &, worse, brilliantly talented & falling painfully short his potential? You wanna sock him in the fucking teeth, but somehow he’s just charismatic enough that instead he becomes your perpetual couch-dwelling, scumbag bestie? Yeah that guy. Not A Part Of It is that guy’s favorite band. Clocking at 16 minutes & change, NAPOI’s proper debut is a punk-rockin stomper that only lets up for semi-acoustic head bobber, “Contemporary Charismatic Criminals”, the obvious crowd-pleaser/sing along, & rightfully so, from the first few moments of the downright chipper intro/lead riff to the fleeting, near screamed, ending of the final verse the track is a popped out punk gem. Hook-asaurus Rocks. The EP falls short of actually capturing the punch of the live show, but is still a pretty damn good representation, & probably my favorite r”
