Q: Nirvana has made such an influence in music, how has Nirvana effected your life? P.S big fan

A: That is a long book that I could write but never see the end. In summary, Nirvana was the big bang to the music world. As most of America, the first song I heard was "Smells Like Teen Spirit" in the fall of 1991. The sounds of the jangly punk guitar intro, the pummeling drums joining and that hooky bass line that remains when the distorted guitars turn into an eerie chime...leads to that voice that draws you in like a magnet. Something about that voice. It was unlike any other I've ever heard. When it's soft you listen, when the band bombards you with each chorus...his voice becomes so intense! And all of this is coming from a THREE piece band! It was one of the most amazing moments of my life. I saw the video on Mtv and it blew my mind into a billion pieces. I related to it because I was still in high school and of course the video takes place in a gymnasium. I couldn't make out the words but I still "got it" in terms of going berserk in my bedroom blasting my stereo. I bought the cassette single, I heard Even in his Youth and went back the next day to buy the full Nevermind album. It was the most beautiful record I've ever heard. I then got Bleach and that melted my brain. Of course In Utero became my fave in 1993. The lyrics were the best in my opinion. Kurt really painted a masterpiece with his words. I couldn't stop listening. I taped a radio stations (Y108 in Aurora) live broadcast on the night In Utero was released. The next day, on my way to school on the bus...I listened to Pennyroyal Tea over and over again through my shitty Walkman and headphones. Heck, I listened to ALL of those songs over and over again. That band made me realize that I didn't need to have 4 or 5 people in a band to be good. That band made me realize that I don't need to be a schooled musician to write music. That band made me realize that I don't need to learn how to play solos. What that band did teach me was to play what I feel. Period. That changed my life in many ways. I was able to
