I remember when I was young
And war was on the horizon
But the battle had already begun
In the hearts of those still here
And every child I knew
Thought constantly of dying.
The battle we were fighting
Was the war against our fear.

And people were building shelters
For what, we didn’t know
The only thing I knew was home
Was not a safe place to go.
And I remember the awesomeness
Of the preciousness of life,
And constantly wondering
If our planet would survive.

Many years have passed now.
And those fears have faded away.
But lately on the news it seems
We’re revisiting those days.
I see the same anxiety
On the faces of my kids.
And it breaks my heart to know
They feel the way I did.

And I don’t know how to ease their minds
But somehow I do
When I tell them each time,
The same thing was happening
When I was young
But God saved us then
And God is not done.

And so I pray, Jesus,
Renew their hope.
And so I pray, Father,
Don’t let them go.
And so I pray, Spirit,
Inspire their hearts
And help them to know
We’re not too far apart.

When I watch the news
I can see the other side.
I see their suffering,
Their freedom denied.
They spend each day
Wondering if it’s the last.
Life is so precious
And it goes by so fast.

And so I pray, Jesus,
Renew their hope.
And so I pray, Father,
Don’t let them go.
And so I pray, Spirit,
Inspire their hearts
And help them to know
We’re not too far apart.

And so I pray, Jesus,
Renew their hope.
And so I pray, Father,
Don’t let them go.
And so I pray, Spirit,
Inspire belief.
Teach them to be
Children of Peace.

And so I pray, Jesus,
Renew our hope.
And so I pray, Father,
Don’t let us go.
And so I pray, Spirit,
We’re down on our knees.
Teach us to be
Children of Peace.
