Bio
Neil is a veteran musician in the Canadian music scene. He has toured internationally as a sideman to numerous Canadian artists, and now finds himself flourishing with his own directive and his own music. His first solo release, PICTURE OF SOMEONE YOU NEED received international acclaim, and Neil hope to repeat this with his soon to be released acoustic EP.
About
Neil MacDonald is a veteran Albertan musician. At the age of three, he dragged his mother into the living room, pointed at a child army of Suzuki students sawing away at their violins on the TV, and said I want to do that. And for the next 36 years and counting, Neil has, and continues to “do that”.
Since, Neil has shared the stage with acts as diverse as Suicidal Tendencies to Blue Rodeo, and everywhere in between. In earlier bands, he has toured North America countless times, Iceland, Europe, and Australia, performing as a guitar player, bass player, and vocalist with various Canadian Artists. He has been hired to sing and play guitar on numerous Canadian artists records, appeared on countless national radio and TV features, and has had his songs placed with WB’s hit TV series Felicity, and other independent film scores.
In 2006, Neil was fortunate to receive support from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, and recorded his debut release as a solo artist, Picture of Someone You Need; a very Fountains of Wayne/ Matthew Sweet-ey sounding album. Strong melodies, lots of guitar, power-pop extraordinaire.
Currently, Neil is refining his next batch of songs in preparation for his next album, which we can expect to be a more acoustic side of the same sensible, melodic songs we have previously heard from this promising Albertan artist.
Love a good song?
You’re going to love this guy.
