About
Nancy Newlis is a singer/songwriter born and raised in Moscow, Russia. Nancy began at young age studying theory and composition with Irina Vladimirovna who studied under Dmitri Shostakovich, the extraordinary Russian composer.
At 16 she was granted a full scholarship and a position within the Studio Music and Jazz Program in the School of Music at the University of Miami. During her undergraduate study, Nancy led several bands, performed regularly within Miami and abroad, and was a part of an award winning University of Miami jazz vocal ensemble. She was also selected as a singer on a track off an EMI Records compilation album called “Universidad Navidena”.
After graduation Nancy returned to Moscow to perform and simultaneously finish recording her first rock album with the famous Russian band Babie Leto. With recording under the direction of Alexander Kuzmichev, renowned bass player from the Russian band Voskresenie, her new album became a success and featured such songs as "Memories" and "Chances". Nancy has recently had several large engagements, including an appearance on Russian TV’s popular talent show “Fabrika Zvezd” in 2007, filming her first music video for her song Chances and several live performances in both Russia and New York City. Nancy is currently living in New York City and about to release her new EP "Dreamers", which she recorded and produced with Jeff Berner at Galuminum Foil Studios.
