“Chattanooga pop-rockers Mythical Motors create music that’s as indebted to bands aligned with the British Invasion of the ‘60s as it is to the post-punk landscape of the late ‘70s. Fitting sugary, hook-filled rhythms onto a framework of indie rock melodies, the band melds the past five decades of musical history without missing a beat. On their latest song, "Henry Blazes," the band channels the aesthetic spirit of proto alt-pop staple Flying Nun Records and churns out a jangling, quick-paced guitar chugger that builds around some repeating fretwork, swelling and building into a deceptively simple rhythmic storm of pinched chords and lo-fi harmonies. The song has all the hallmarks of the best indie rock of the past couple of decades. From its '90s jangle pop roots to the late '80s New Zealand pop vibe that radiates from its concentric melodies, the band manages to capture the pop essence without watering down its influences.”
