She began writing music of her own in high school and continued to play and sing throughout her time at Smith College, occasionally performing for audiences until the release of her first album, Getting Deep in Roots, in 2003. Elaine -- who draws inspiration from folk artists like Patty Griffin, Gillian Welch, Martin Sexton and Ani DiFranco -- then began performing at various venues throughout the Pioneer Valley and was featured on Smith TV in 2003. After a year's hiatus, she returned to Smith and began work on a new album, About the Tide, released in March 2006. About the Tide features Elaine on guitar and vocals, as well as piano, electric guitar and djembe. The album, recorded and produced at ToneSoup Productions in Avon, CT, also features Dave Henderson on bass and Ben Dean on violin. Elaine Newly released "Before I Get Gone" fuses folk with rock and jazz and demonstrates the quality of an ever-evolving sound. Visit myaelaine.com or myspace.com/myaelaine for more information.
