“When you are hanging out with Derek Comley you instantly feel like you are in the presence of a - James Dean kind of cool. With the swagger of a young Bob Dylan, rockabilly style, and the use of a bold blend of genres such as rock, reggae, punk and ska - Derek Comley is easily one of the most intriguing musicians in the Dallas indie rock scene. In today's music industry new artists struggle to find their niche in a market saturated with overly produced, bubble gum pop - TV sensations. Derek is none of that; in fact he the refreshing antithesis of such fabrication.”

“While looking for something to do tonight, I stumbled upon the MySpace for local act "The iLL Caminos." Intrigued by the band's self-description as "new wave, neo-soul, post-punk," I listened to the available songs and found myself wanting more. Seems Comley is one interesting guy. He mixes Tom Waits and John Lydon without coming off as arty or uptight. Songs like "Have-Not," "Reckless Dreamers" and "Ballad of California" are solid rock songs that feature elements of swing jazz played at the volume of old-school punk. Comley and crew have been playing around town since 2006, which makes me feel sad for missing out on them for so long. I plan on making some amends by purchasing the band's 2009 eponymous debut and by catching Comley and his band of iLL Caminos this evening at the Absinthe Lounge in the South Side building on South Lamar. I suggest you join me.”

“Si bien el sonido dista de ser el mejor, lo importante es descubrir a este flaco, que dice admirar a Tim Amstrong, Mike Ness, Joe Strummer y Elvis Costello. Sin dudas se deja entrever cierto talento en los 2 temas que abren este disco….una pena (como ya dije) que los demas canciones no tengan el sonido que se merecen. Hoy en dia, lo acompaña una banda llamada “ill caminos” (a quien mierda le importa!!!), esperemos tener noticias de este forro…pronto…”

“Derek Comley is quite simply one of the most innovative and promising young artists to crawl out of the subterranean depths of the American underground indie scene. Influenced by rock'n'roll, early punk, swing, dub, reggae, hip hop, surf, and latin influences. The lyrics are insightful, clever, and socially conscious with a vocal delivery that is raw, emotional, and extremely engaging, never whiny or over the top. Joe Strummer, Iggy Pop, and Elvis Costello are obvious influences.”
