She pours her voice over you like a fine red wine as she raps over her guitar riffs. KG describes her music passively as 'new school blues'. This former South African Idol finalist has just released ‘The Art of Love’; a six song suite bursting with love, addiction, and paradise.
About

SCHOOL GIRL GONE BAD
She has the voice of an angel but she sings like the devil’s been chasing her.
So what business does, a Former Head Prefect have singing in nightclubs? Once destined to be doctor or a lawyer, she sounds instead like she’s been singing in bars wrecking cars and hanging out with movie stars. ‘Actually’, she confesses, ‘I do sing in bars, I totaled my car in ’06 and I once kissed a movie star.’ The movie star she’s referring to is South Africa’s own ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ Colin Moss, the host of South African Idol where KG was a finalist at the tender age of 16. As she remembers, “It was a publicity stunt, organized by the show; I got into a lot of trouble for it, but I don’t regret it”. This Johannesburg native was brought up by her parents, a doctor and a lawyer with strict morals and rules, and yet it seems she finds herself straddling the line between good and bad; the perfect recipe for good R&B/Soul music.
Kgomotso ‘KG’ Tsatsi’s latest and first release is ‘The Art of Love’; a six song suite bursting with songs about love, addiction and paradise. Her influences range from Lauryn Hill to Nina Simone to Brenda Fassie, and she describes her music passively as ‘Aretha Franklin doing ballet’: delicate, soulful and full of surprises. Ironically, at age 7, KG quit ballet after having to choose between it and classical piano lessons. She chose the latter and has never looked back. Her childhood poetry soon developed songs and raps, which can be heard over her harmonies and percolating African rhythms. A self taught guitarist, and self described old soul, she writes songs that sound like the good old days. Her song ‘In Love’, will have you your reminiscing about your good old days. No wonder, she’s a mirage of a jazz singer from another time. She pours her voice over you like a fine red wine. On stage she drapes her self in red; red on her lips, her hips and her fingertips. She’s simply irresistible, with a firm control over the audience and her music; it must be the ‘prefect’ thing.
If that doesn’t wow you, her control and fluency of 3 languages, English, seTswana and Spanish, just might. At 21, KG , has already had an international career, the youngest ever performer to reach the finals in the USA World Showcase where she made the top 20 out of over 40,000 auditions. In Toronto she often lends her voice and guitar to support grassroots organizations, student initiatives or major galas to promote causes close to her. This two time Honey Jam alumna, performs around Ontario with her R&B-blues band, ‘KG & the VIPs.’ Yet, most surprising of all? This rising star is still in school at the University of Toronto; studying Spanish and International Relations. Good girl Gone bad? ‘No’ that’s Rihanna’s thing’, she quips. I’m more of a ‘School girl, Gone bad!’ and we love her for it.
