Murphy is a simple man. He writes simple music. Growing up in the northern midwest and reared by parents who migrated from the south, he blends southern values and northern culture into a unique insight evident in his lyrics and musical creations. Along with his grandmother teaching him harmonies at Sunday church "hymn-sings," he was raised on country until classic rock swept him away along with discovering the blues all of which are reflected in his style.
