Bio
In 2007 Moonwood recorded 11 CDs under the name Babel (which Jakob began using in 1999 as an outlet for dark-ambient/psychedelic dub). He now calls this project HEAVY MOON/moonwood. Also in the psychedelic vien, he is part of slow-burning duo SISTER RAY (with Mel Mundell) and improv noise trio NEW YAKI (with Stephen Warren/Partli Cloudi and Andrew MacGregor/Gown).
About
"Moonwood's Aubade a soundtrack for nearly anything
Unsurprisingly, Aubade, the most recent release from Moonwood—a.k.a. the Urbane Decay’s Jakob Rehlinger—evokes all kinds of imagery, including daybreak and separation. This album is a sweetly melancholic trip, just quirky enough to be accessible to those listeners not familiar with the meandering psych-folk aesthetic. Three songs break the 11-minute mark, but they ebb and flow so organically that they almost don’t seem long enough.... Though it has a decidedly improvised feel at times, Aubade comes across as a remarkably focused and exceedingly mellow album that could be the soundtrack for nearly anything—a long daylight walk, a harsh chemical comedown, new love, or even a heavy-hearted morning separation." — M. Nelson, Straight.com (http://www.straight.com/article-262578/moonwoods-aubade-soundtrack-nearly-anything)
"[Moonwood's] latest work, the instrumental MOODWOOD “Aubade” CD/DVD, and I’m here today to tell you it freekin’ blows me away. Whenever I want to mellow out, I put this CD on. The DVD itself is a shockingly beautiful portrayal of a day in early springtime Canada, the movement of anonymous people and forces throughout the big city of Toronto, the bubble of creativity surrounding one aware soul, in touch with something only he can transcribe through the liquid commentary of music and image, and we are all the more lucky for it. Jakob has an eye…and an ear…for capturing the modern isolation yet yearning beauty of the human spirit. I, for one, am touched and moved." — Fatal Interview (http://fatalinterview.wordpress.com)
