About

Michelle Freeman was born on the 21 st May 1984, in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Born into a musical family – Michelle was influenced from an early age to develop a passion for music. Her father taught her from the age of four to play the piano. He constantly played her songs written by The Beatles – one of their songs being her name sake – “Michelle”. Until 1991, Michelle played by ear. She started lessons and continued with these lessons until 1997, learning basic reading – but her true passion was composing, and eventually, her teacher – concert pianist, Poland born George Pokolski, focused on her compositions, (George conducted the national anthem at Nelson Mandela's inauguration).

Her first composition, she wrote at the age of 8. She continued to write and this talent truly developed when she was 14 – when her song writing skills developed.

Eventually in 2001, Michelle joined her first band, singing. Anaztacia was a soft rock, alternative band, who performed originals as well as covers, doing mostly charity concerts for organizations such as “Headway” and “Avril Elizabeth Home”. In 2004, Michelle went solo and did her first demo with rock band, Silent Running, with Denny Laloette on bass – SA Idols bassist, and Evenflow's Melody Kaye on vocals.

n 2005, Michelle focused mainly on developing her jazz techniques, and her passion for Celtic sounds, combining them together to form her signature style.

In 2006 Michelle played mainly at functions, a wedding and in restaurants. She, together with Taryn Schwartzel, put a demo together of her own music and started circulating it. Michelle joined MIO, myspace.com, (www.myspace.com/freemanmichelle) and launched her track “Celtic Fever”, this piece earned her, work with Soul Candi Institute of Music – teaching composition, a soundtrack job, and collaborations. Michelle and the talented DJ Syntrax, combined “Celtic Fever” into a mix, and entered into the MIO 2006 mixing competition.
