About
Michael Dyer is a singer/songwriter who, for many years, wrote songs only for his own pleasure and to maintain his own sanity. Then, in 2006, he began arranging and producing his songs. The end result was that in 2007 he released, on CDBaby.com, his backlog of songs in the form of three CDs. Many of his songs feature warm vocals, well-defined bass themes and drum rhythms, subtle picking, ethereal keyboard and dual-guitar leads.
Most of Michael's songs involve love and relationships but some songs are about a search for enlightenment. Some listeners have referred to these songs as mystical rock (The Trek, in CD: Nothing Seems Like What It Seems). Other song themes include: war (Mid Moss-Covered Boulders, in CD: Our Unwinding Time), youth vs. age (Young Old Man, Nothing Seems Like What It Seems), and the environment (EarthSong, also in Nothing Seems...). Some songs contain backwards music (All Reversed, in CD: Aboriginal Angel) and one song features the didgeridoo as a lead instrument (Aboriginal Angel, in same CD).
His songs commonly have some unusual feature. For example, "Makin' No Sense" (in CD: Compli-intricated Life) makes use of a modified version of Pig Latin; "You Can Syncopate" (in CD: Butterfly's Release) employs syncopated (shifted) harmonies.
Michael's latest CD (Christmas Comes Just Once A Year) was released Nov. 2009 and contains 10 Xmas-related and 2 New Years-related soft-rock and soft-blues songs. For example, "Santa, Ya Little Troll" is about a boy (who has been very, very bad) who is complaining that, not only has Santa left him coals, but Santa also took away the presents his parents had put under the tree for him.
Michael earns his living as an educator and on the side enjoys the craft of Venetian-style glass-blowing. Some of his glass creations appear on the covers of his albums. Albums are:
