ARTology is a showcase of all things beautiful. Our first series is "Water Changes Everything" and our goal is to raise $15,000 so we can provide clean water to 3 villages, through the non-profit charity:water. Our second event of this series is going to be on September 23rd, 2011 at Mokah Coffee Bar in Deep Ellum. This event will feature live music by Michael Castro, Ashley Gatta, Brad Cooper, Griffin Schmucker, Rey Medrano, Wes Butler, and Devin Dildine. In addition to music we will also have a silent auction, live and interactive art, baked goods, crafts, "Water Changes Everything" screening, photo "booth" and charity merchandise. Bring extra cash to buy art, food, and merch. It all goes to provide people with clean water for the first time! Are you interested in donating any of the above items (food, art, homemade crafts/jewelry)? Let us know! Tickets are $6 in advance at www.weareartology.com OR $8 at the door. There are only 200 tickets available so we encourage you to purchase advance tickets online and save a couple bucks in the process! Doors open at 6:30PM. The event will begin at 7PM and end at 11:30PM. You may bring your own 6 pack of beer or a bottle of wine for a $5 cork fee. The venue will have plenty of free and paid parking in the lot and along Taylor Street. Support them both at www.walkthelight.org and www.mokahcoffeebar.com. ----- WHY WATER?!?! 1 in 6 people drink water that make them sick (1 BILLION). Unsafe water and lack on basic sanitation kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war. The UN predicts that 1/10th of the global disease burden can be prevented simply by improving water supply and sanitation. In Africa alone, people spend 40 billion hrs every yr walking for water. Time spent walking for water and the resulting diseases keep people from school, work and taking care of their families. Clean water alone can reduce water-related deaths by 21%. Sanitation alone can reduce water-related deaths by 37.5%. Handwashing alone can reduce water-related deaths by 45%. Every $1 invested in improved water access and sanitation yields an average of $12 in economic returns, depending on the project.
