“ Man Wazimu a.k.a Virgin Man recently announced the release of his second album. He is still working on some of the songs to include on his sophomore record. Looks like some of the things he had planned might not go through. Man Wazimu was meant to work on a song with 26-year old Jamaican star, Jemineye, who was to record his bit in Jamaica and send it to Man Wazimu. When Jemineye's deadline passed, Man Wazimu inquired on the progress and Jemineye informed him that he was yet to lay down his lines. Man Wazimu, known for his strict code and hate for incompetence, immediately canceled the arrangement. Jemineye tried explaining that getting studio time is not as easy as many would think but Man Wazimu had already made up his mind. Jemineye persisted, Man Wazimu declined. Man Wazimu will go ahead with the album recordings without the help of Jemineye, who finished in the Top 10 of Magnum Kings & Queens of Dancehall competition.”

“Local reggae artiste Man Wazimu has announced another album. The release date has not been set but the reggae star has settled on the title, The Way. Makes you wonder if it is a rhyme thing. His debut album is called My Say. Man Wazimu also exclusively told Ghafla! that the album will not have a single riddim, all of the tracks will be one drop. The Way will also have only two Bashment songs. It was more more than a decade before Man Wazimu could release his debut album, but looks like he is set to release another one within a year of My Say, which came out earlier this year. “ Man Wazimu's Emergency Pills is his biggest local track. It's the ultimate gateway song into the reggae artiste's music. It's the track you have to listen to if you want to sample his style and acquaint yourself with the rest of his discography. It is also the track that made Just-A-Band want to work with him. Just-A-Band's Blinky Bill says he was listening to the track with social music singer and UN Habitat Messenger of Truth, Sara Mitaru, when the idea to have him for one of their concerts came up. By the time they got a hold of him, they were planning the Kudishnyao! street concert outside the Goethe Institut in the CBD. Through contacts, Sara Mitaru searched around for him and Man Wazimu agreed to perform at Kudishnyao! “During a recent interview with Ghafla!, we asked Man Wazimu which Kenyan artiste he would like to collaborate with. In his 15-track debut album, My Say, we noticed that he has only featured two other artistes, Peshi and Eimah Rox. "Are there any Kenyan artistes who you like enough to go out and look for? Anyone you want to work with?" we asked. "No" he said without blinking, "No one." He added, "Before I work with you, there are two things I look at. One, is the business side. And two, is the passion. What do you have as an artist?" Internationally, though, the reggae artiste said he would love to work with Macka Diamond. "I like the way she writes her music," he prasied the Jamaican reggae star.”

“Man Wazimu started researching about music in 2001 and started recording in 2003. Between then and now, he has switched recording studios twice. Mostly because they didn't fit into his timing schedule. The artiste prefers to record in the morning and doesn't appreciate tardiness. "If we agree 7:30 and 10 minutes later you haven't arrived, you won't find me there," he said during a recent interview with Ghafla! The artiste has had to turn down shows, even from abroad, either because they didn't match his style or because he feared they would erode his street credibility. He turned down a concert in Costa Rica because it was a gospel song and he didn't want to take the money at the expense of his street credibility. The few non-community shows that he has agreed to take part in, he leaves immediately after his performance. "After I finish performing, five minutes, I'm out there. I don't hang around.”

“The Kenyan music industry may not be as competitive as it is in other markets but artistes still have a hard time breaking through. The main problem is usually capital, finding recording studios and video producers. Even then, convincing TV stations to play your music becomes a hassle. But in this technological age of cheap (free) software, anyone can produce their music and even shoot their own videos. Marketing stuff online is easier, if you can figure out a way to convince people to check out your music. Man Wazimu is not a household name in the entertainment industry but he already has an album out. You can find a number of his tracks and videos on YouTube. Mr. Wazimu has totally bypassed the mainstream channels to get his work out.
