Mama Hagglin was established in 2002, almost by accident, when (singer) Jeff Porter (China White/Glory Holes/The Cause/Mike Mart) realized that the simple jams he was playing while goofing off with friend Jonny Phish were, in fact, good songs... only the lyrics were missing. Porter contacted former band mate Sandy Hancock (The Mechanics/Adolescents/22 Jacks), explained the situation and they started rehearsals the next week. A band is born now it needed a name. Porter and Phish both agreed that the name needed to tie back to something heavy for them with rock-n-roll nostalgia. Sure enough, while relaxing to a Jimi Hendrix album one day, It happened! they got their name It was on the Blues record (see if you can find Mama Hagglin on it, you have to pay attention). Mama started hitting the clubs, working on the show and grabbing fans. In 2004 bass player Phish left the band for personal reasons. Again Porter placed a phone call to a former band mate. This time he would call Mitch McNally (Tazers/CH3) who seemed to fit right in.
The band continued to gain a fan base and up until 2007 stayed a 3 piece act sharing the stages with many fine artists such as Johnny Winter, Eric Burdon, Beth Hart, .38 Special, Mountain, Ten Years After, and it goes on. Porter, being the song writer in the band, had already started working on songs for a new album that would stray slightly from the bands 3 pc. live capabilities. He wanted to explore music and take Mama to new places. In mid 2007, Mama expanded by picking up piano/organist- Jimmy Palmer (G-Spotz, Green Natives) and it was just what Porter needed. Within a quick two months Porter had the band in the recording studio tracking their first studio produced, full length album. In the middle of recording the album, the band replaced bassist McNally with Jerry Adamowicz. Now the bottom end had definition. Sprinkled throughout the album the band incorporated the Cello, Sax, Trumpet, Mandolin, Harmonica, Acoustic & electric 12 & 6 string guitars, Piano & organ, Bass, Drums, and extra percussion. They've released a 3 song single called The Goodbye Waltz, ahead of the Full length album called VIBE. The Goodbye Waltz is up for downloads now, and was officially released April 3, 2008, at Martini Blues, in Huntington Beach, CA.
