“Canadian rock band Magic Trees have been doing their bit to help bring some extra holiday cheer to members of the armed forces who are overseas as they have donated a song to a special compilation CD. "Hero 2011" has been produced by English record label TTN Records and is aimed as a Christmas present to the troops. The special limited edtion release is provided free of charge to Forces Support charities who then include them in Christmas parcels that are sent to Afghanistan and elsewhere and copies are also provided to Forces broadcasting stations so that the songs can be enjoyed by all servicemen, support workers and their families. Magic Trees spent the summer in St Annes, England working on their new album. When the Trees offered to donate a track from their debut album "Everything Is A Song", "My Night Sky" was chosen as the starry night sky is very evocative image and is often used by people who are far away to help them think about their loved ones back at home.”
“The band consists of two couples, and has a repertoire of original music and covers. “We call it the vinyl collection, there’s lots of Fleetwood Mac, Wings, Rolling Stones, Nazareth etc,” says Jaime Dickson. When it comes to their choice in style, Dickson says it’s a sound that is universal, and connects with a wide range of people in a wide range of age groups. “We’re there to have a good time and throw a party basically. It’s a good feeling to have people get up and dance and that’s what people are there for. They want to have a few drinks and have a good time, and we’re there to make that happen.” The band has been doing what it has wanted since day one, Dickson says, and they are proud of everything they’ve done so far. “The goal was to share this great kind of peace and love vibe we were feeling. We wanted to get out there and spread this and make people happy. We knew that we wanted to do this by playing music.” Magic Trees will be at the City Lim”
"After all, we had such a great chat with them the other week for our radio show - and we absolutely love their CD "Everything Is A Song" - that we just HAD to go and hear them play live....." "The Magic Trees have recorded a great CD called "Everything Is A Song" - which you really ought to buy - and most of the material they played last night was taken from that. However they also demonstrated their wide repertoire with a few covers thrown in: a song by Cream that they finished with, a version of Queen's "I Want To Break Free" which easily rivalled the original (sorry Queen fans but having the female voices in the vocal mix here really does add something special..) and a great version of The Police's "Message In A Bottle - which is notoriously difficult to play but they really did make a superb job of it."
"Magic Trees are "Magic" Great Covers and Origional Tunes played to a decent crowd who loved them ... and they are really, really lovely people."
"...and if you haven't seen this band yet, you really ought to try and get along as it really will be worth it. Very often when you are watching a rock band in a pub or club and they announce "now here's a song that we have written ourselves..." your heart tends to sink - but that is not the case with the Magic Trees. Their own material is really good and easily on a par with the covers that they perform. My own favourite is "My Night Sky" with "Your Heart Is My Mirror" a close second, while Lucy absolutely loves "Everything Is A Song". Their covers are great too, with a wide range of songs from Eurythmics to Cream, Fleetwood Mac to Queen - and do listen out for their own version of The Police's "Message In A Bottle"! The band take their music seriously and have moved to England especially to write and record their second album - a follow up to the sensational "Everything Is A Song" CD, which you can buy at their live gigs or online through the usual sources."
