Bonus Entertainment presents Queen Ifrica, Tony Rebel and Madi Simmons with The Elephant Dub Band Monday, February 11Doors at 10 PM$23 Early bird advanced tickets at www.bonusman.info , Northcoast Horticulture Supply, The Works in Eureka, DTA in Arcata, Peoples Records in Arcata and Couple Cups in Arcata 21 and overBonus Entertainment presents Queen Ifrica, Tony Rebel and Madi Simmons with The Elephant Dub Band! Queen Ifrica born Ventrice Morgan, began her career in 1995 after shining at a local talent contest in her hometown of Montego Bay, Jamaica. This eye-opening experience eventually led to major stage performances in her country including the esteemed Reggae Sumfest as well as a union with Tony Rebel’s Flames Crew in 1998. With roots firmly secured in the Rastafarian faith, she blossomed as one of the top cultural artists in reggae swarming the airwaves with hits like “Randy”, “Jus my Brethren”, “Below the Waist” and “Daddy” and stealing the stages at major festivals and stage shows around the world (Summer Jam in Germany, Sierra Nevada World Music Festival, Bob Marley Festival, Reggae on the River in California and Reggae Sundance Festival in Holland). As an active community leader, Ifrica is involved in several outreach programs for children in Jamaica’s inner-city and charity shows where proceeds are donated to the cause. She also recently signed a record deal with VP Records and they are working in the studio on her first album Montego Bay set to be released in July 2009. Tony Rebel is cited by many as the first rasta “singjay” in dancehall reggae music, a style which blends singing with traditional deejaying over dancehall riddims (other singjays include Pinchers, Anthony B, and many newer artists). Tony Rebel’s career began in the 1980’s, and was often seen performing with Sugar Minott’s Youthman Promotion sound system. Rebel is responsible for introducing a young Garnett Silk (then known as Bimbo or Little Bimbo) to the sound. The two were closely linked until Silk’s untimely death in 1994. Tony Rebel’s career was at its peak in the early 1990’s, with such hit records as “Fresh Vegetable”, “Sweet Jamaica” and the duet with Garnett Silk “Christian Soldiers”. He remained prominent in the late 90’s with the smash hit “If Jah” on the La La Bella riddim. Tony Rebel still performs occasionally, but has focused most of his energy into the career of protege Queen Ifrica and his immensely popular, annual reggae festival in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica entitled Rebel Salute. Madi Simmons is one the most overlooked singer song writers. He was the lead vocalist of the band STONE CRAZY, then moved to Hawaii in 1995, where he tore down the house there, recording a cd entitled GET U SOME, which has been released worldwide in march 2005 and can be heard at www.reptorradio.co.uk.
