Maca / Press

“Maca & The Machines @ The Monto Water Rats- It was Maca and his band The Machines who stole the night. The Irish lead played a mixture of old and new songs, claiming ‘Miss You’ was written when he was just 15. However, the highlight was ‘Fading’ one of his latest tracks, with Maca and Guitarist Andy Boud collaborating to produce some great melodic moments, complementing the rockier sounds of ‘Resurrection’ and ‘Live’. There were a real mixture of song writing styles which culminated in a varied set list and it is certainly not difficult to see the influences of Ryan Adams, The Beatles and The Cure whom Maca claims are some of his greatest childhood idols... A combination of real musical talent combined with great stage presence and a tight performance makes this band an absolute must see for the future.”

“'Downtown' has a pleasantly expressive voice against an acoustic guitar driven background. 'So I Can Grow' has a band sound behind decent vocals and has a smart arrangement that keeps you logged on. 'Resurrection' changes the mood again. It's a speedy fuzz guitar driven thing, with a funk-lite feel.”
