Take heart-piercing, aggressive lyrics and mix them with dynamic hip-hop tracks. Add in influences from alternative rock and pop .... and you've got Lyrycyst. Sounds crazy huh? Well this is not your typical rap artist.
About
In a time when rap music has become predictable and stagnant, a young Midwest artist known as “Lyrycyst” stands as a breath of fresh air.
In 2007, Steven Cooper (aka Lyrycyst) stormed onto the mainstream music scene with his remarkable debut album “Masquerade”. The album was raved upon by media outlets throughout the globe and even coined in it’s own genre “Alternative Rap”. With the success of his debut single and music video for “Showbiz”, (featured on the Hip Hope 2008 Compilation and hailed as one of the best rap singles of the year) Lyrycyst has quickly established himself as a prominent new face among rap/rock/and pop circles alike.
In Winter of 2009, Lyrycyst returns with his much anticipated follow-up album entitled “Revolution”. Based around a core concept of overcoming obstacles and pursuing destiny, the album is sure to be a staple in the definitive sound of the eclectic artist and broadens the spectrum of what popular rap music “should sound like”. The first single “Forever Gone” is a perfect example of the creative nature of this album. Taking advantage of the emotional and dynamic musical landscape, Lyrycyst confronts the pain of losing a loved one and reminds listeners of the hope we often don’t see in any tragedy.
The driving, funk-infused “Take On The World” mixes edgy guitars over a pop-oriented groove providing a great foundation for Lyrycyst to shine with an aggressive verbal delivery. Songs such as “Blink” and “You Can Be” get to the root of Lyrycyst’s storytelling abilities and remind you why this young emcee was originally nicknamed “The Lyricist” when he first started penning rhymes in high school.
From start to finish we get a taste of the impressive rhyming skills and depth of lyricism that is the key to the rappers buzz and success. With more mass appeal than previous efforts, “Revolution” will undeniably catch listener’s ears and garner fans in an array of genres, all while staying true to the original hip-hop platform that Lyrycyst is undoubtedly known to thrive on. If you’re anxious for a unique turn in the hip-hop music of today, Lyrycyst might just be the artist for you.
