“Feeling nostalgic for the riffs of a Quentin Tarantino soundtrack? Hold your breath no longer; Lovers League want to take you there and lay it down the line, so to speak.”

“Folk-pop band Lovers League released their self titled debut last week. Earlier this year, the band released the single “Cowboy”. The band was formed by singers Dani Mari and Reverend TJ McGlinchey. Primarily singing as a duet, Reverned TJ McGlinchey’s jangly blues makes the perfect accompaniment to Dani Mari’s vintage pop. Starting off with the incredibly catchy “Cowboy”, the album alternates between fast tempo folk songs and slowed down pop ballads. Lovers League is a sweet expansion on the theme of young, infatuated love. In particular, listening to “Take Me To An Island” is like taking an island honeymoon. Overall, the album has a summery, sweet sound, perfect for a band called Lovers League.”

“Lovers League, formed by Philadelphia-bred singer/songwriters Dani Mari (Lockets) and Reverend TJ McGlinchey, has released its new single “Cowboy”. The track highlights Mari and McGlinchey’s catchy harmonies backed by a bluesy bass line and folksy guitar work embodying the best of both singers’ vibes. The band will host a single release party to share more new music on October 26th at Connie’s Ric Rac.”

“Local singer-songwriters Dani Mari and Reverend TJ McGlinchey have teamed up to host a monthly concert series in a popular South Philly park this summer. The FDR Park Summer Series kicked off on June 8th with performances by Griz and Kevin Killen, as well as sets from the hosts. The next concert in the series is this Friday featuring Toy Soldiers and Thom McCarthy. I sat down with Dani Mari and Reverend TJ McGlinchey to chat about the FDR Park Summer Series, what they’ve been up to, their new band, Lovers League, and the pair recorded a couple of acoustic songs for us.”

“Reverend TJ McGlinchey and Dani Mari recently put out a charming, folk-pop self-titled EP under the name Lovers League. The album is a combination of each of the artists' solo works performed as a duet. The band's sound is rounded out by members Christopher Davis-Shannon and Dean Gorfti.”

“Head on over to Johnny Brenda’s this evening to celebrate the debut release and witness the collaborative musical union of Reverend TJ McGlinchey and Dani Mari with Christopher Davis-Shannon and Dean Gorfti completing the quartet known as Lovers League. Melding their vocals, McGlinchey and Mari create a smooth yet earthy, enriching texture with a folk-oriented acoustic country-blues foundation that provides a natural heartfelt penetrating sound on their promising self-titled debut LP. However, the lineup tonight is chock full of excellent local talent. In fact, the Raph Cutrufello-led creative folk collaborative known as Hezekiah Jones will headline the bill, taking the concepts of folk and reshaping them via unexpected, slightly twisted maneuvers, generating an excitement and energy in the process. The Spinning Leaves, whose members share strong ties within the bill, help to make it a family & friends affair.”

“Just in case you didn’t know, Philly has a super amazing folk music scene, and a pretty sweet folk music festival too, called Philly Folk Fest. Between Folkadelphia, the Philly Folk Song Society, and independent, uh…folks like the Kettle Pot Tracks crew, there are plenty of opportunities for the fabulous artists in our town to be showcased.”

“New(ish) Philly folk outfit Lovers League is preparing to release their debut album at Johnny Brenda’s on June 26th. With a full lineup including Hezekiah Jones, New Sweden, and the Spinning Leaves to open, and the seal of approval from the Philadelphia Folksong Society, the night is sure to be one that folk music lovers won’t forget.”

“The Lovers League release has been over a year in the making, but it will be well worth the wait. The band features Dani Mari and Reverend TJ McGlinchey showcasing songs from their solo works, but performed as duets together. Philly's most endearing upright bassist Christopher Davis-Shannon and Dean Gorfti on drums complete the outfit.”

“Lovers League, which is the pairing of Dani Mari and Reverend TJ McGlinchey, will celebrate the release of their debut album with a lineup of great area acts.”

“Johnny Brenda’s felt like home on the hot and sticky summer night of Lovers League‘s album release, sponsored by the Philadelphia Folk Song Society.”

“The show is presented by the Philadelphia Folksong Society and will feature Hezekiah Jones, Spinning Leaves and New Sweden. Lovers League is a collaboration of Philadelphia songwriters Reverend TJ McGlinchey and Dani Mari. The album release show will also feature a collaboration of Hezekiah Jones & Spinning Leaves (Spinning Joneses and Hezekiah Leaves). XPN’s The Key featured Lovers League’s track “Cowboy” as well as the track “Thinking it Over.””

“The heavy weights of the local Philly, PA music scene collided in folk-rockery at Johnny Brenda’s—presented by the Philly Music Co-op. The band Lovers League held its album release with the help of headliner Hezekiah Jones, along with the Spinning Leaves, and New Sweden. It was clear that this was not only a band’s celebration of its creative product but also a celebration of a musical arts community.”

“Lovers League is the fortuitous pairing of local singer-songwriter Reverend TJ McGlinchey and formerly local singer-songwriter Dani Mari. Although Dani has moved to Brooklyn, she still travels to Philadelphia frequently to keep up with the Lovers League project. McGlinchey has had plenty of experience blending his voice with others’—as a member of A Fistful of Sugar and Paige Allbritton’s band—but there’s no better vocal combination than his vaguely western twang and Mari’s dreamy lilt. They sing of tree-climbing and book-reading and hand-holding—perfectly sweet summer songs with complicated rhythms and solid backing from bass player Christopher Davis-Shannon and drummer Dean Gorfti.”

“At its record release show at Johnny Brenda’s on Thursday night, Lovers League drew a large and appreciative crowd for a lineup that stacked together like logs on a cabin. The show was sponsored by Philadelphia Folksong Society and Philly Music Co-op, and especially because Lovers League’s The Reverand TJ McGlinchey grew up around the Philadelphia folk scene, the show drew a lot of regulars looking forward to this year’s Philly Folk Fest. Wilmington, Delaware’s New Sweden started the night with good-time folk featuring jangly cymbals and tambourine. They were a little louder and faster than the other bands, which got the energy up early.”

“Lovers League, a duo of Reverend TJ McGlinchey and former Origivation (now That Music Mag) Acoustic Artist of the Year Dani Mari, make breezy, well-crafted country-folk that is perfect for summer afternoons. The focus here is squarely on careful, melodic songwriting and the gorgeous, Emmylou Harris and Gram Parsons-inflected harmonies between Mari and McGlinchey, who both wrote songs for the project. The two voices blend smoothly or contrast strikingly as the occasion calls for it, and their performances are consistently assured. Their vocals are given center stage, with understated accompaniment from acoustic and pedal steel guitar, banjo, upright bass and drums setting the mood.”

“As a special encore, TJ McGlinchey and Dani Mari from Lovers League played a gorgeous version of “Two of Us” by The Beatles. Their beautiful harmony floated through the atmosphere like a gentle breeze. Needless to say, it was the perfect end to a night of delightful music.”

“If you miss Dani Mari at one of the multiple festivals coming up, all hope is not lost! “I will be recording a collaboration project called “Lovers League” with Reverend TJ McGlinchey this fall. Our kickoff show will be at Connie’s Ric Rac on October 26th. I will also be busy performing at other shows and hosting open mics at Liberties, Sisters and Connie’s Ric Rac.” She also has some new music coming up soon, “I am working with a label called Someplace Called Brooklyn and will be releasing new music later in 2013.””
