“Louis Lingg was a German-born anarchist who was involved in a notorious bombing in Chicago during 1886. Louis Lingg and The Bombs are a wonderful Paris-based punk rock band who mix different musical styles to create an exhilarating three-chord-garage-punk-electro-blast of noise and tuneage. Ramones-style guitars clash with digital hardcore while Beastie Boys-style punk-rap vocals fight for space alongside Bis-style keyboard melodies. ““Excellent stuff. Louis Lingg’s finest to date. All the trademark Spizz Energi-style punk enthusiasm is there on tracks such as Favela Ninja and WTF, but there are new elements. Some barnstormingly entertaining keyboards cut through on Twitter Riot - yes, that could be for you, Illiterate Worthless Orange Moron - as they do on Happy Day (when the Sun Explodes). The theme of inevitable demise is repeated on Old Age, Sickness and Death, my personal favourite track and new ground for the Linggsters. A ‘quiet song’ of sorts, but marvellously catchy, reminding me of something cheerful, sprightly and humorously bitter that may appear tucked away on a Julian Cope album. While such existential problems are the fault of no-one, the usual lambasting of the powers-that-be takes place on most of the other tracks. I love the hanging chords on Occupy Everything and the piss-takey (I think) house blast on the anthemic Rave and Steal. Grindstone is a song everyone can relate to. Work is shit!”

“This is one of those songs I want to highlight a little more than usual, a song that immediately jumped out at me and one that'll no doubt end up in my end of year "best of" list. It's a bit of a strange beast, read the lyrics and you'll expect a downbeat, depressing or possibly angry sound but it's nothing like that. Despite the bleak lyrics it's one of the catchiest, most upbeat songs you'll hear. Hopefully it'll find the audience it deserves. Louis Lingg And The Bombs were featured on here a few months ago (http://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.co.uk/2015/01/louis-lingg-and-bombs-destroy.html) and although it'd normally be a bit too soon to have them back, they've kicked down the Just Some Punk Songs' front door and demanded entry. Le bassiste et le guitariste participent aux chœurs sur chaque titre, la claviériste (qui ne chante pas) est bien présente, par son instrument ou un tambourin, et si le son de batterie surprend....”

“Tate Britain art show Ruth Ewan exhibition Archives, accordions and protest songs The performance was part of Squeezebox Jukebox (2009), British artist Ruth Ewan’s contribution to the recent Tate Triennial, ‘Altermodern’. Each day during the exhibition a small selection of songs were performed, chosen from the ongoing archive the artist has compiled since 2003.
