About Lorens Chuno:
With his wide-ranged vocals, Lorens Chuno creates a one-of-a-kind sound that invokes Highlife and Jazz while resonating Soul and echoing Pop.
Lorens Chuno is a unique act in every sense of the word unique! Lorens is one artist that can boast of being exposed to a great range of genres. As a child, he performed Ati l'ogu (acrobatic musical of Eastern Nigeria). Since he was seven, he's been performing with several choirs and bands in U.S.A, West Africa, and Europe. A crazy scat artist, Lorens adores Ella Fitzgerald. As a performer, Lorens Chuno is Funk! His energy is comparable to those of James Brown, MJ, or Patti Labelle.
Born Lawrence Chukwuno Udeigwe, Lorens Chuno grew up mostly in Nigeria and the U.S.A. Lorens attended Mt. St. Gabriel's secondary school, Makurdi, went to Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, Pa for his undergraduate education and then the University of Delaware for a Master's Degree.
Lorens Chuno is currently working on a Doctorate (PhD) Degree in Mathematics at the University of Pittsburgh. However, all those differential equations haven't been able to keep him away from a passion of his: making great and timeless music.
Lorens Chuno teamed up with his highlife band "the Palmwine Tappers" for the studio recorded singles on the Naija Rocks Compilation. Known for catchy lyrics and a very mature sound, Lorens Chuno is a top favorite for seasoned listeners of world music. His genre breaks beyond the barriers of RnB, without sacrificing any of the finesse of soul music and waist moving rhythmns and energetic melodies of highlife music. He is indeed in a "class of his own".
Lorens Chuno is influenced by Onyeka Onwenu, Bongos Ikwue and Fela Kuti on the African circuit. On the international scene, he respects Bob Dylan, Ray Charles, Micheal Jackson and Ella Fitzgerald but he thinks Patti Labelle has the greatest voice ever.
