Over the past three years, Radio Phoenix has broadcast news, information, and music not heard on any other radio station in Phoenix. In addition to the latest in independent local and national music, Radio Phoenix offers news programming as varied as Al Jazeera English, Bridges to Africa, and WINGS, a program exploring news and cultural events of interest to women. Radio Phoenix broadcasts 8 hours a week of programming for the Native American community. Last year, Radio Phoenix trained 50 community members in station operations and broadcasting; undertook 3,700 hours of broadcasting, of which 220 hours were free public service announcements for local civic, governmental and community organizations. Volunteers contributed 7,000 hours to board, staff, and operations. Radio Phoenix is the internet service of the Arizona Community Media Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation dedicated to providing media access to communities, organizations, musicians, and artists traditionally excluded from the mass media. The Foundation also operates the “Feet on the Street” program in which radio students from highly impacted high schools produce public service announcements and programming for Radio Phoenix.
