“Saturday night was roots music night at Lincoln Exposed with three country bands playing within minutes of each other, preceded by a South American-rooted group and followed by the rockabillies. Lloyd McCarter & The Honky Tonk Heroes played to a full house at the Zoo too, living up to the band name with a solid set of hard country. Some of McCarter's songs have commercial potential (meaning they sound like they could get some country radio airplay) and he and the band know how to play country the real, right way -- with plenty of brilliant Telecaster guitar. It would, however, be nice if ol' Lloyd put down the acoustic guitar a few times and brought out the pedal steel on which he is a killer. ”
