About

ImageLauren Lane has recently played at Pacha NYC, Cielo, Love, LeSouk, Neptune Beach club in the Hamptons, Guesthouse and Boucarou. She will be playing at the Winter Music Conference in Miami this year at Victor Calderone's Evolve Party. If you catch her set, you can expect to hear a mix of funky or vocal house, dirty electro, minimal, deep tech-house, latin/tribal and groovy disco inspired beats—basically, anything that will make your body move and keep the energy up. She has just finished producing her first original track with Fonseca titled "AfterParty" and also remixed Crystal Waters' new song, "DanceFloor ". She has been picked to be featured in a new TV show that documents the life of New York City DJs which is set to air at the end of this year. Lauren plans to keep producing music, DJing in New York and elsewhere, and also pursue her music journalism career.

After earning her degree in Journalism in 2005, Lauren focused on getting a "real" job because it seemed the logical step after college. After working briefly for an art magazine, her love for music and nightlife prevailed. She got back into DJing and also started conducting and writing interviews with DJs for ProfessionalRockstars.com and Nightclubcity.com. In 2007, Lauren''s DJing reached a new level when she had the opportunity to play multiple gigs at New York City's biggest nightclub, Pacha NYC. Her most memorable moment while DJing occurred while playing late-night to a packed-room in Pachita when Danny Tenaglia happened to catch her set and wrote in his blog that she impressed him.

Lauren cannot remember a time when music was not a part of her life. After taking dance lessons since the age of 3, music and rhythm became a natural part of her existence. She was always exploring a wide array of genres and also learned to play the piano and flute during elementary and middle school.

ImageLauren fell in love with electronic music at the age of 16 when she discovered the late-1990's rave scene in Philadelphia. After being exposed to many types of music through different disciplines of dance and instruments, new influences kept pouring in ranging from hip hop (like Wu-Tang Clan, The Roots, Gangstarr, Biggie and Tupac) to classic rock (Jimi Hendrix, The Doors and Led Zeppelin being her favorites). Records were always part of her life even though she grew up in the cassette/cd/mp3 era. Her ballet teacher used classical records during class instruction and her parents had a huge record collection filled with classics from the 1970's and 80's that captivated her at a young age ranging from Motown to Disco to Rock and Pop. Lauren remembers always loving to use the record player and wanting to play with a huge pair of her father's vintage DJ headphones since she was a little girl.

When she and her friends started frequenting clubs and raves in Philadelphia, New Jersey and New York her favorite DJs were Josh Wink, Frankie Bones, Robbie Tronco, Bad Boy Bill, X-Dream and DJ Funk to name a few. Some of her favorite memories of the "rave days" include the Whistle parties, Boo, I Have a Dream, Bang and many more. During this time period, two of her male friends decided to buy turntables and start spinning records. Lauren would go record shopping with them weekly at 611 and Cue Records in Philly. It didn't even occur to her until years later to get behind the decks herself. As high-school graduation approached, she decided New York was the place she wanted to be. After moving to New York in 2001, it took a little while to settle in to the big city.

ImageLauren started to frequent clubs like since-closed Vinyl/Arc (where she first heard her biggest influence Danny Tenaglia), Soundfactory and Cheetah Sundays where she began to meet new friends who loved music as much as she did. One day in 2002 while partying at a friend's place—who is also a DJ, she decided to take advantage of his set-up and give it a try. Hooked instantly, she started slowly accumulating equipment and practicing the art she always was fascinated with. Her collection of vinyl grew as she frequented Decadance Records religiously on Sundays where she learned the ropes of shopping for music and developing a style and sound. As she worked towards her college degree, she continued to practice and even got her first gig at Abaya on New York City''s Lower East Side. She also played some various gigs at the infamous Asseteria party during its run at Show Nightclub, Crobar''s Prop Room, as well as Spider Room in Avalon, Temple, Viscaya and B.E.D. in the first stage of her DJ career.
