About

Listen to Electronic music at it's best…
Enter the world of Nilaihah Records.

Since 2000, Nilaihah Records has been at the forefront of Electronic music. With Kristy Venrick at the helm, the small but mighty operation has grown above and beyond what anyone would have anticipated.

Nilaihah Records has climbed to the top of the Electronic Dance, Industrial, and Synthpop genres in its short six-year existence.  “We emerged to believe in those who believe in themselves,” states Kristy Venrick, owner and founder of Nilaihah Records.

Phonetics: nil-EYE-ah

As a female-owned business, Nilaihah Records has stamped out its own niche in the Columbus music scene.  The mission statement, as displayed on the Nilaihah website, states that the label “strive(s) to release some of the most thought-provoking electronic music out therein order to keep you moving and open your mind.”  Many brilliant artists go unheard and we want to provide them a voice. We strive to create, produce, and market the most emotional forms of expression for talented, original electronic bands from across the globe.”  Nilaihah Records strongly adheres to this ethic, which is reinforced through Kristy’s personal motto, “Nothing in the world is accomplished without passion.”

Definition - the poetics of the fallen

It all started with a dream – Kristy’s simple dream of promoting her band, The Azoic. And through passion, devotion, and hard work, that dream slowly started to become reality.  "It was almost surreal,” says Kristy.  “I never wanted a record label, per say, but was asked by a fairly successful ambient electronic band if I would sign them in 1999.  Their label had recently declared bankruptcy. I was dumbfounded, and told them I wasn’t sure what they meant, as I didn’t have a label."  In disbelief, the band replied "You should. You do an amazing job at promoting your own band!"

So, with no prior business experience and minimal resources (but with a glimmer of hope and desire to succeed), Nilaihah Records eventually got off the ground in the Spring of 2000. Not even Kristy could imagine what sort of ordeals would lie ahead. Now, after 6 years, over 30 releases, 18 bands spanning the globe, and a full staff (including 2 cats), Nilaihah is by far the largest label in Columbus, even one of the top in the U.S. within their electronic music genres.

When inquired about the label and the bands, Kristy humbly replies that the bands are from all over the world, from Norway to Italy and San Francisco to NYC. She may also proudly tell you that a few of her bands have already achieved amazing feats. One Nilaihah band was featured on MTV’s MADE opening credits for the entire series. Another was featured on Microsoft’s Xbox game ‘Dance, Dance Revolution Ultramix 3’, and yet another was one of the headlining acts for this year’s DragonCon, Atlanta, GA festival with 40,000 large in attendance.

Ironically, Kristy is not only the force behind Nilaihah Records, but she is also one of the label’s most recognized artists.

Now that you know a little more about Nilaihah Records, here’s a bit about the bands we represent!

The Azoic - Female fronted Electronic Industrial Dance that pounds with energy and fiery vocals. Their 'Forward...' CD captures more of an electronic feel than their previous releases and has become a club staple worldwide. Check out the multimedia EP [+ video] for 'Conflict', their debut CD in Europe, 'Conflict + Forward', and their recently released album 'Illuminate'. (quick fact: The Azoic’s “Conflict [Turmoil Mix]” is featured on Microsoft’s Xbox game ‘Dance, Dance Revolution UltraMix 3’)

Backlash - Hailing from Sweden, Backlash provide us with sweet electro pop sensibilities, drum and bass loops, female vocals, a hint of trip hop, and old Industrial influences. Licensed from Sweden's own electro label Memento Materia. Nilaihah Records brings you their "best of" from their 'Impetus' Swedish release and the 'Blind' EP, all wrapped into one appropriately titled 'Impetus'. Look for their latest release, with male vocals, on WTII Records.

Blind Faith and Envy - A stunning female-fronted Electronic Pop band packed with infectious hooks and catchy melodies.  While Depeche Mode influences may be warranted, Blind Faith and Envy still have a strong, unique style all to themselves. Add hints of a modern day Erasure with a bit of Tori Amos to their dynamic songs to see why this band will grab you and take hold! Look for their debut CD, 'the Charming Factor.' (quick fact: Blind Faith and Envy’s track “She’s Left in Silence” was featured on MTV’s MADE opening intro for all the MADE shows)

Conetik - Imagine futuristic trance-pop that is so catchy, you're immediately addicted! Smooth, sexy vocals and infectious club beats from Oslo, Norway. Take trance, turn it on its head, mix in the Chemical Brothers, the Pet Shop Boys and shake it up! Yes, you'll be taken too... (quick fact: Conetik toured with Zeromancer)

Dissonance – Female fronted Industrial, Dark Pop, Electronica. So catchy, you won't stop singing these incredible melodies! They released their 2nd full length CD, 'Reincarnate', produced by Lars of Oneiroid Psychosis, on Nilaihah Records after a strong debut CD on Paul Robb's Hakatak label (Information Society). Complete with remixes from OP and Signal 12 plus a cover of The Beatles' "Eleanor Rigby".
(quick fact: Dissonance was discovered by Paul Robb of Information Society)

Distorted Reality – Sultry female vocals seemed flawlessly with driving electronics that vary from straight EBM dance to poetic ballads. Look for their US debut in 2003 of 'The Fine Line Between Love and Hate' with all new tracklisting and remixes. Featuring Martha, the former vocalist from 'Deep Red', this US / German duo is sure to take the world by storm! They are back and with a stronger presence than ever! They took their already amazing sound, finessed it and experimented, defying genres. (quick fact: Distorted Reality is playing DragonCon in Atlanta this September 2006)

Endanger – All the way from Germany, Endanger bring us a fresh wave of modern, catchy electropop tunes that span from club hits to melodic ballads. If you like De/Vision, Wolfsheim, Iris, NamNamBulu or Covenant, check them out!

Fiction 8 - Industrial, Synthpop, Electronic Dance and Dark Pop from Denver and San Diego. They are possibly THE best-kept secret in the Industrial, Synth Pop, and Electronic genres. The have amazingly well crafted songs with beats that you can't resist dancing to!

Frozen Plasma – From the ashes of NamNamBulu arise one of the most talked about electro bands of 2006. Vasi Vallis (NamNamBulu and Reaper) joins forces with singer Felix Marc (Diorama). Imagine the hooks, melodies and layers you've come to expect from NamNamBulu alongside hints of VNV Nation and 80's electro.

GASR – Mix early 90's Industrial ala Skinny Puppy with modern EBM, dark vocals, a hint of Synthpop, emotion, and flawless programming to understand why they already have a strong following. Yes, melodic EBM with an undeniable edge!

Ghost & Writer – feat. Frank Spinath of Seabound and Jimmy Joe Snark III from The Weathermen.  The infamous FRANK M. SPINATH (SEABOUND and EDGE OF DAWN) recently collaborated with JimmyJoe Snark III (THE WEATHERMEN) on this amazing side project. It's already gaining a lot of attention. And, with two musical geniuses, we can easily understand why. Listen for yourself...

Interface – New York’s Interface combines elements of darker EBM, trance and industrial, all with a melodic, emotional edge. Founded and led by Eric Eldredge, plus keyboardist Jon Billian. Originally signed to Tinman Records, who released The Artemis Complex (1999) and Angels in Disguise (2002), Interface has reached audiences worldwide with tracks such as “Wasted Time”, as well as numerous compilation and remix appearances.

Invisible Ballet - Striking female fronted electro pop with gorgeous melodies and powerful hooks. Add hints of strong ethereal vocals and modern synths with 80's new wave influences.
(quick fact: This stunning band is a side project of Halou, formerly of Nettwerk Records).

Liquid Divine - Mix elements of Kraftwerk, Front Line Assembly, Recoil (Alan Wilder), Haujobb and even a little Tear Garden (Skinny Puppy) to try and crack the complexity of this amazingly talented band. Modern, original electronic beats that transition and weave through several styles and genres into one very strong and cohesive debut!

Muscle and Hate - "Muscle and Hate" is the new project comprised of Sebastian R. Komor (of Icon of Coil, Monofader, Moonitor fame), one of the best electro producers to date, and XP8, complete with Doulas McCarthy-esque vocalist Paul Toohill (also of XP8). An outstanding collection of cover versions of one of the most popular Industrial/Electro bands off all time: NITZER EBB. Now, you can hear the most popular Nitzer Ebb tracks with a modern yet powerful twist. This album is so infectious, it's almost as if Nitzer Ebb has resurged...

NamNamBulu - Electronic newcomers Henrik Iversen and Vasi Vallis grace us with melodic EBM / Futurepop from Switzerland and Germany. Combining catchy hooks, strong vocals, and intense lyrics, they somehow make every song a dance floor hit and introspective ballad at the same time. And their notoriety keeps growing after Side-Line announced them "Band of the Season" + completing a recent tour with Melotron.

Null Device - One of the most promising Synth-Pop acts to come out of the US are this talented duo from Madison, WI. Their debut CD, 'Sublimation' has melodic vocals and insightful lyrics and strong programming. Be sure to check them out at the Black Sun Festival in this summer!

Unheilig - Their perfect concoction of electronic and rock has enthralled thousands of European fans and now, with the help of Nilaihah Records, Unheilig extends their spell to America.  With sold out tours, spots on Project Gotham Racing 2 and appearances on the German music television station VIVA plus, the next logical step for Unheilig was to reach American audiences.

XP8 - Italian Industrial Dance with pounding beats, pumping electro power hooks and true grit with strong similarities to Icon of Coil and Nitzer Ebb! This album, "Hrs:Min:Sec", was produced by Sebastian Komor of Icon of Coil.  If you've ever heard their music before, imagine a HUGE growth by this young band!
