Fresh off the World Cup Kick-Off Celebration concert stage, Kwani Experience graces the Golden Mic Nights stage on Thursday 1st July at the Blues Room in Sandton. South African Music Award (SAMA) and 4 times Metrofm awards nominated 6 piece band, Kwani Experience is Joburg's favourite international band and a cult to many. Their Mudaland Funk brand of music is a trans-lingual cross-over style that is funk driven, with elements of rap, acid jazz, dance and indigenous South African sounds and soul. Unique in their sound and forever high spirited on stage, the band causes waves wherever they perform. Having performed to roaring crowds in countries such as France, Belgium, Netherlands, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Lesotho and Cape Verde, Kwani Experience is proving to be one of South Africa’s greatest musical exports. Known for their LIVE WITHOUT FEAR attitude and statement, Kwani is an experience, energetic, electrifying and eclectic yet accessible. Think successful, entertaining, liberating, hip, musical-journey, African Urban Culture, post-apartheid, motivational, educational, South African cultural transition and [re-] evolution; think KWANI EXPERIENCE – this is what the band is, and represents, in no uncertain terms. Says Zubz, “These nights are meant to be an intimate experience of both the music as well as the artist. I plan for them to be very interactive, engaging the audience on a personal level. That's why the Bluesroom makes for a perfect setting for the nights." And that’s exactly what one can expect. Zubz will host Golden Mic Nights on the first Thursday of every month at the Blues Room. Each night will have an array of headliners making this a monthly event worth inking into your diary. Please note that this event may be televised. Doors open at 7:00pm with a R100 cover charge. The need in Joburg for well-produced concerts with a credible line up has led to the creation of Wazwa!, a monthly event aimed primarily at satisfying the growing market of live music supporters, incorporating top class production and some of the coolest Dj’s on the planet. The line up varies and will include Hip Hop, Rock, Urban and Electronic acts in the coming months, combining the taste for live music and good dancing under one roof. Concert culture is here, launching on the 10th April at the Bassline in Newtown. Wazwa! Volume 1: Bring the Music The events are scheduled for every second Saturday of each month. Wazwa! Vol.1: Bring the Music features Kwani Experience, Blk Jks, Zubz and DJs Blaq T and Romz Deluxe. All acts are household names in the Joburg indie and alternative mainstream scenes and have toured extensively. The venue has been booked through until August for a total of 6 events. About the name: A corrupted street expression of the Zulu word ‘Uyazwa’, which means ‘can you hear? ; usually as a question, although ‘Wazwa’ is more of an assertive statement. So the Wazwa events are about bringing the music and the acts to the audiences in a way that says: ”Yes you’ve heard them, but you haven’t REALLY heard them, it didn’t hit quite hit the spot”, in an exciting manner. It’s bringing an exciting line up dedicated to the music, its makers, their enthusiasts and those that have never really heard the music or seen the acts before. Wazwa! Is a new exciting, daring and breath-of-fresh-air events brand producing quality concerts. Let’s avoid brand talk and just say that memorable events can only be outstanding productions, great sound and lighting, great music and great artists. Wazwa will host a series of concerts with outstanding indie, alternative and mainstream acts and DJs from around the continent and the world. The acts will be seen and heard at their best as themselves and also in collaboration, so one will see for instance the headlining act/s making guest appearances on the alternative act’s set. These are acts that are either at the top of the game, about to blow up or straight up legendary.
