Bio
Kitsunegari is an acoustic pop/folk artist with almost a decade of experience as a solo performer. Kitsunegari's lyrics paint portraits of her experiences and her interests.
About
Loitering on the very fringe of the Brisbane music scene for almost a decade, Kitsunegari is a regular of the open mic circuit. This diminutive performer has a powerful and meldoic voice that forces punters to turn their heads and causes passers by to stop and listen.
Giving away more years than her youthful appearance reveals, Kitsunegari's depth of experience is displayed through lyrics which weave intricate webs and take the listener on a poetic journey of multiple meanings. A poet and writer from a young age, storytelling is a part of her life.
Her music caught the eye (or ears?) of independent record label owner Matthew Hoffman of Lempicka Records, who helped her to produce and record her debut EP bootpolish&babies. The work they did together has helped Kitsunegari pave a path towards success she may have struggled to create on her own.
With a broad range of influences ranging from Elton John, Cat Stevens, The Killers and the Scissor Sisters to Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Annie Lennox and Akon, she is able to draw from an extensive pool of ideas to create her songs. This broad mix of musical influence can be heard on her, which employs an ecclectic mix of sounds from pop (Johnny Says), to reggae (Do You Remember) to rock (My Vice) and exotic instruments (Little Birdy). The EP has received regular airplay on Brisbane community radion station 4ZZZfm and internet radio stations Downunda Thunda Radio and Global Thunda Network.
Kitsunegari has performed throughout Brisbane, Ipswich and Bendigo in Central Victoria and was involved in the inaugral Brisbane Fete de la Misique Festival in 2008. She has also played in support of: Lilly's Ether, Wearing Rosco, Like a Bard, Sue Ray, Thatchwork City, Tim Beau and the Hot Summer, Shelby Lim, Wipedout and Butcher Birds.
