About
KIRBY SEWELL
It took losing everything for Kirby Sewell to learn to sing the
Blues...
Life has taken and life has given to Sewell, who channels
those emotional experiences into stand out live performances
that connect with people.
Performing the Blues is a ceremony, quips the 6 ft 6 singer.
It is expressing the pain that you lived thru and celebrating
that you are standing in a much, much different place!
Kirby's most recent celebration was this summer on the main
stage at the 2008 Calgary International Blues Festival, an
opportunity that he won being voted as Calgary's Top Blues
Vocalist.
Building on that momentum, the singer-songwriter just
released a self-titled EP on www.pronouncedsoul.com, that
bares the sound of his last name.
Live off the Floor, the 6 song EP captures the heart of Sewell,
singing his own renditions of popular cover songs & new
originals. Kirby's country fried soul version of Bill Withers
Ain't No Sunshine is visited by the legendary ghost tones of
Amos Garrett. While, Tim Williams is also a welcome guest
on the porch putting the Delta guitar in Sewell's twist on
Robert Johnson's Come On Into My Kitchen.
Sewell also digs into some his Bluesy crowd favourites like
Albert Collin's cover of Hop Wilson's, Black Cat Bone, &
B.B. Kings, cover of Chris Kenner's Something You Got.
Showing off his chop's to make these cover songs his own,
Kirby emerges on the EP as an Vocal Artist in his own right.
Further highlighting his gift for delivering catchy vocal
melodies, the Sewell/Gunhold penned songs, Beautiful
Tomorrow & Melanie explore new territory for Kirby
while keeping it sophisticated and original with sassy and
poignant lyrics that match the soulful jazz undertones.
Getting his music out there is important for Sewell, and his
plans include touring on the summer 2009 Blues Festival
Circuit & writing new songs for a full length release. This
natural blues man, with a big soul voice looks forward to
sharing his unique talent with audiences everywhere
